Process Lasso to force efficency mode on background processes....Thoughts?

Because of a well built machine years ago, I’m late to the Windows 11 party. But now I’m setting up my new laptop, I’ve just realised that as well as outright disabling certain background processes, we can now use the ‘efficiency mode’ in task manager to demote them to a low priority and use the efficiency cores on the cpu.

I also saw that Process Lasso can make that state persiste for any process, rather than having to reset them in task manager every time it’s booted.

I tend to run multiple instances of GP all with different cpu core affinities and would love it if I could encourage windows to utilize less of my performance cores and run as much as possible on the efficency cores instead.

So the question is, are any of you doing that and how have you found it? How good an optimization is it in reality? (couldn’t find anyone really talking about efficiency mode in the this forum)

Process Lasso was mentioned on this forum, you can search for these threads.

You also have a great opportunity to test A/B does it makes any sense (and share your results here  ).

I’ve done some tests with an i7-1360p. I think I wrote some posts about it. In the end my overall opinion (not a definitive conclusion) was that Windows itself does a pretty good job with regards to scheduling and anything I tried to improve it didn’t make it obviously work better. So I decided to not set affinities. After all, also GP has tasks threads that do not need to run on a p-core, and otherwise plugins have.

One thing that can make a difference is core parking. That is, disabling it.

As for the Windows processes: the optimization guide will contain pointers about that, I guess. But you will have read that, I take it. I myself have left everything the way it is and it’s fine, but my setup is rather modest (guitar player). I use 2 instances.

My x.yy cents (pick your own currency :grinning:)
