Plugin Manager Maintenance

This is more of an “I am amazed how much difference this made” post that had a significant impact on my Gig Performer start up time. Hope this is the right category!

According to the Plugin Manager, I currently have 1,045 plugins and 49 rackspaces that I load at startup. It used to take a couple of minutes to start Gig Performer - e.g. the "initializing, scanning plugins, loading rackspaces. I recently had to recover one of my Waves subscriptions and reload it, and I decided to do some cleanup of various plugins that “failed to load”. I chased down all the broken links, missing files, etc, and general housekeeping. The next time I started Gig Performer it took about 20 seconds. Most of that time is loading the rackspaces. It’s was a “Duh-Oh” moment as Homer Simpson says, and I was/am amazed that it made that much difference.

Plugin file maintenance can make a big difference in your GP startup experience. Highly recommended. See my video clip of the actual start time experience for GP.

Alternatively, disable automatic scanning on start up — you generally know when you install a new or updated plugin so really no need to scan every time.
