Good day folks. I’m new to gig performer and wanted to get my rig more compact with only gig performer.
So, i’m a multi instrumentalist. I used to play keyboard chords with my foot and play guitar… I will have to do the reverse (Not possible to play guitar by foot! May be audio playback or any other way you might suggest)… I looked at audio playback and it seems amazing… may be i will have to use the pre recorded riffs while i do play the solos on keyboard (we dont have any guitarist atm)…
Now back to the point : 1. Do gig performer has any feature like i can pre define the chords and can be triggered by midi pedal? Any straight plugins where i can define the chords by intro-verse-ending type structure rather than assigning chords into the midi note and trigger the midi note by pedal? Looking to replace the “dream foot app” i use with ipad & irig blueboard (will keep the blueboard)
Can i load several multitrack of a song into audio playback tab? Like a DAW where i could turn off any layers rather than exporting the whole track into one wav and load into audio playback… This might give us more control over the pre recorded layers and use them live.
Yes, Gig Performer has an inbuilt plugin to define chords and with a MIDI pedal you can trigger this chord.
When your MIDI pedal can send Note messages it is very easy, but also when the MIDI Pedal sends CC messages it is possible with a little scripting or widget mapping.
Hi Paul thanks for your information… Is there any video on youtube explaining this feature ? I am quite new to GP’s UI. I think Irig Blueboard sends CC messages. I do have FCB1010 as well which is capable to send note messages but its very bulky to carry.
Only problem is the chord has to be assigned into the key. I believe that i have to go through the widget mapping or scripting which is big dark area for me at this moment… I have no idea how can i achieve this. Is there any thread /posts /video which explains this? Really dont want to carry the ipad with me anymore
Yiu have not said what you hope to achieve do you want to
Play pre recorded audio guitar chords
Play a vst instrument which produces guitar sounds
Play in sequence or randomly
Be able to change the key.
As the proverb says in gp theres many ways to skin s cat.
You could setup a song with song parts and move through them with the foot controller each having a different audio file player or safp track.
You could program different songs or parts to each foot controller button so you can jump around them ad lib.
You could trigger the midi file player to play different midi files which connect to say an ni guitar synth instrument, good thing with this solution is you could change the key easy and not need to record the audio.modifing midi files is much easier.
All will work well.
Hi, the problem is we are only three people in our band with no guitar player. I have to play guitar and keys at the same time. while playing guitar is alright with hands and triggering sounds with keys but doing the reverse is very hard. I’m mainly keys player. So while playing keys i am looking into a way to play the guitar as well. There will be situation when i need to play keys with hands but its very hard to continue the guitar that moment… I have to keep guitar and keys both playing and it is getting challenging for me. I was thinking to -
Use pre recorded guitar/keys in sequence, so i can switch between instruments while having a backing keys/guitar. But to be honest i would only consider this if there’s no other option. Of course would love to play everything live but its hard for one person.
Midi player also works good, i need to find a good guitar VST… But in that case tempo sync might be a problem and send bandmates the click.
If you have any easier solution to achieve this please let me know
I was using this app to play guitar while playing keys by foot, doing the reverse is getting challenging for me now. And i would love to get rid of bringing the ipad if i could replace this app with GP.
If you want to go the live route, there are midi players like Orb Producer and Captain Epic, and even a band in a box. They will confine you to a tempo, but you can easily change progression and keys, you can route the outputs to Kontakt and play keyboards/pianos/guitar to suit.
as said midi file player will do it too as will the audio player and SAFP.
If you need flexibility on the night, it sounds like you need to create songs with two parts, one with keyboard backing and one with guitar, and select which one on the night in a setlist. If you already have many parts to songs, just create separate songs and put them into a setlist.
you could create a song with keyboards and guitar backing as you want through the song.
I use two SAFP players one with backing and the other With markers and clicktrack.
constraining what you are doing should reduce the complexity.
your probably going to be playing in a set key and tempo anyway unless jamming so reduce the variables and keep it simple.
Have a look at RIPX if you want to produce a backing track and take parts out, you will always have some small artifacts but generally it works well.
My tuppence worth.
Thanks a lot. But i think all the functions you have mentioned, GP is able to do them all. I am thinking to send click to 3/4, while 1/2 output is assigned for FOH. You are right, i should just use the sequencing to reduce complications. This will also allow me to concentrate more into playing than controlling the chords. Midi player sounds good, just i hope that it will not overload the CPU… Have to look for a decent guitar VST in this case.
Hi Paul yes thats what i meant. Gotta choose one less CPU hungry VST. Thanks a lot for all your help. I am pretty much hopeful for the ultra compact rig i’m dreaming of.
I’ve used Session Guitarist and uJam Virtual Guitarist in the past to fill in as a “virtual guitarist” for jam sessions or practice. Worth checking out if that’s kind of thing you’re looking for.
I think Session Guitarist is better if you want more detailed control over strumming patterns and such. Virtual Guitarist may be simpler if you want to give it a single note to change chords and let it play the patterns it knows.
Hi, Yeah i’ve used session guitarist before and its awesome. I think for now i will be good with Evolution infinity which i’m using for quite some years now. will have a look into uJam for sure. Thanks
