Pianoteq 9

That CP-80 is most probably going straight to GLOBAL

Hello, Paul,

I think David said he did not use the Pianoteq electric pianos because he preferred Lounge Lizard’s (which is what I use).

But, David seems to be saying that he might try Pianoteq’s electric pianos again to see if they have improved because they use less ram than Lounge Lizard. Ram efficiency is a priority for me too. But, I was not aware the Lounge Lizard’s electric pianos used more ram than Pianoteq’s (I thought they were both fully physically modeled).

So, that is my question.

Only @dhj can clarify

That is not what I said  I said that I could reduce the amount of physical RAM.I should have said total physical RAM

Why? If I use Pianoteq for acoustic piano and Lounge Lizard for electric piano, then I have to load the code for both of those plugins. However, if I can use Pianoteq for both acoustic and electric pianos, then I have to load Pianoteq code twice. But since it’s the same code, it will only be loaded physically once because the code section will be shared by both acoustic and electric pianos.

Now, whether enough RAM is needed that this will make much difference is debatable.

A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of @dhj

Love the new CP80. I tried to use the older version but something just didnt sound right to me, but the new one is exactly what I’ll need.

Using Pro version. if upgrading to version 9, can I choose different 4 instruments than chosen for version 8?

Thanks for the heads-up!
Downloaded the demo and did a very quick comparison to v8 with New York Model D, YC5 and Kawai. Very, very convincing update! Haven’t been this excited for a Pianoteq update for years (bought my first license in 2014, cannot remember which version it was back then?). Only letdown for me were the electric piano updates, I was expecting a bit more since the piano engine felt and sounded so much better. But I’d say the YC5 now beats Keyscape’s Yamaha and Acoustic Samples C7 for me, so it might just become my new go-to piano for gigs at some point!

I’m blown away by the quality of this plugin!!!

With every adjustment I’m able to get the right taste. A quick comparison with the presets I’ve been using live for the past few years really blows Keyscape away.

It’s just a more pleasing and consistent sound quality and the sheer amount of parameter tweaking is outstanding.

No. You are licensed for the 4 instruments you already have. v9 has upgraded those instruments with audio quality improvements and a new preset (Sombre) for each grand, but v9 will only unlock the same 4 instruments.

I bet y’all are existing users.

New customers can buy Pianoteq with 10% off of the price (Modartt is Deskew’s partner).

Didn’t apply for the discount unfortunately (though I did mention the Gig Performer forum as my source) BUT I don’t care. I LOVE this plugin.

The (free!) CP-80 is going to put a smile on my bandmates faces tonight. Just finished replacing all my Keyscape rackspaces with Pianoteq. :star_struck:

(that Condition slider is awesome!!! Tuning unison width… Direct sound duration, Mics & Mix… it all just takes me to the perfect place to get inspired to PLAY)

I think im going to replace Lounge Lizard 5 with this. All the electric piano sounds just seem to have more presence for me.

I understand that opinions are divided about Pianoteq’s sound quality, and there are demos (including version 9) that I also find rather harsh or clinical sounding.

Last Saturday, I played a show for the first time using Pianoteq instead of Keyscape, and the difference was incredible. Both the monitor and FOH engineers came up to me asking why I hadn’t done this sooner, because it sounded SO much better!

Usually, I have to cut a lot of bass from the piano (both with Keyscape and the internal Nord Piano sounds) because for live PA systems with subs there’s just way too much low end. I understand that it sounds nice when playing solo, but in a band setting it just doesn’t work.

Pianoteq is much more consistent across the whole keyboard, and I didn’t have to cut as much low end, which really improved the overall tonal balance.

The harsh sound from the demos could be corrected with parameters like tuning the strings per note (Unison width).

However, the biggest difference is in the playability! It felt like I was playing on a completely different (and better!) controller. So much nuance!

One thing (actual 2) that I do with all my Paino sounds in Pianoteq, is to reduce the volume of the lower couple of octaves in the Note edit section. I just pull the whole left section (after checking the lowest notes my right hand will play) just a bit, but it means my left hand isn’t as loud as the right. Im not a piano player as such so have poor piano technique. I tend to use ,my left hand more for octave than as part of chords. Not ideal, but im still new to all this Piano stuff. Also back off the low end EQ a bit for the same reasons.

The other thing I do is click on the randomise button for tuning in the same section. just to take away some of the perfectness.

The big change I made (perhaps because I play mono) is switching from the ā€œmicrophone settingā€ to ā€œmonoā€ (I think at Paul’s suggestion). I think before I did that, I heard a phasing sound that was not ā€œonā€.

Starting about 2 months ago I started using Pianoteq 8 in a live setting with GigPerformer. Sound guy is loving it though we have had to work through some EQ/Volume level issues to fit in with the band, but it has been worth it.

Did the upgrade to 9 yesterday and wow, stayed up a couple extra hours last night just playing. There’s just a richness to the sound that’s inspiring, especially the Bosendorfer. Even since v8 I feel like I’m playing an actual instrument now.

The binaural setting seems to fit my stereo IEM mix perfectly :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’ve tried mono but it just doesn’t sound right in my stereo IEM’s. When i get more time i will investigate it more as i know its a good idea in some cases.

I do use a mono piano in one song though and it just sits right in my mix. Others don’t.
