Hope you’re all doing well
Things are moving slowly but surely on my side, still trying to integrate synths and FX into my jazz trio setup!
I’m staying mostly on the software side because it’s easier to travel light. In some gigs, I just request an 88-key weighted controller and a smaller synth-action keyboard, bring my laptop, Babyface, and soon a Faderfox UC4 or EC4. I play also acoustic piano on this rig and need to had effects to the acoustic piano.
The idea is to get some proper hands-on control, like with a good hardware synth or a Nord Stage. But I’ve struggled a bit: it’s hard to keep a consistent control layout across all rackspaces (I’m using Gig Performer), and in reality I often don’t need “that” many FX, but I still have this obsession with getting it right, so I want to make it happen.
I’m considering using a “global multi-FX plugin” in the global rackspace, to keep things centralized.
Has anyone tried ShaperBox 3 in this context? I’ve read it’s powerful and CPU-efficient, true?
Also, I have Ableton Live 12 Suite, so routing audio to Live is an option, but I’m a bit wary about reliability and CPU load when running both Live and GP. Maybe it’s a bit more complicated too ?
Any thoughts on smart ways to:
- Map the Faderfox with clear labels related to what’s done right on hardware keys/synths ?
- Choose essential effects for live synths / keys
- Maybe add some glitch, reverb, delay, modulations, even on the acoustic piano ?
Thanks as always for your time and patience
