There is a new major release coming
Yes!!! That’s so cool !!!
Hmm, not really blown away by the new features… €199 for the upgrade feels kinda steep.
I mean, even after a couple of years I’m still discovering stuff in V2!
I never purchased Omnisphere, but I might now. The pricing is weird: $499 for the downloadable version; $499/399 € for the box version. WTF? I can pay in either currency from my US or French bank. With the current crappy exchange rate, 399 € is about $466. Is there any reason not to buy the box version?
Maybe with the download version you can allways download.
Maybe with the boxed version you cannot download?
Even years ago, boxed versions only had a license code in them and you still had to download the program. The boxed versions were for stores to have something physical on their shelves. We’ll find out on release day.
What really interests me is whether all the sounds used so far actually sound exactly the same, and whether they can all be loaded again without any issues (including those from Keyscape).
They do say that this is the case. On the other hand, they also mention that they have “remastered” all the old sounds and redone all the effects.
I’d appreciate a report from someone who will also upgrade from V2 to V3.
Check whether that Euro price includes VAT
Are we sure that 199 is the upgrade price? For other packages they ask 99 only.
I am happy about new effects. Past version was not top of the class about that.
And V3 allows to use the full effect collection as a plugin rack for every DAW.
This means Omnisphere effects for our GigPerformer rackspaces. Very interesting
Modartt are a French company, so I assumed that VAT was included, but I’ll verify that.
I wasn’t sure but I think that even with Euros, the VAT rate is different in different countries so the actual price will be different depending on where you live
I’m really glad they did this considering the amount of new effects they added (about time!). I don’t see that much point in having a bunch of classic analog comps and eqs modelled inside a synth that cannot be used as an FX processor for other stuff, but now the update makes much more sense.
Seems like a truly major update, so the upgrade price seems almost fair IF those additions are actually well made. Some of the GUI improvements look very promising, and I’m eager to hear those new filter types. Omnisphere used to be my go-to workhorse at around v2, but I’ve gravitated much more towards simpler one panel synths since. This update might actually change things. My ideal synth plugin would be something that on one hand could be used as a simple bread-and-butter single panel synth and then open up into a much more complex all-around sound design tool when I wish to explore a bit more. 2.5 is almost there when used with the hardware integration option, but without the hardware control it’s too sub-menu heavy for my taste.
About 10 years ago I purchased the boxed version of Omnisphere 2. It contained an installation guide with a license number and a fold-out credit card style USB storage device with the Omnisphere installer and full library in it.
The USB stick installer would make the boxed version worth getting. Thanks!
How convenient! I still have the 2.0 box with multiple DVD discs and not a single computer with a disc drive anymore
It kind of sucks to download that amount of sample data.
Check out the Pioneer BDR-XD08B portable BR/DVD/CD drive. I have the older 07 model. The 08 model is now USB3.2 compliant for very high transfer speeds. You can use it either as a data drive or audio/video disk playback. It’s also a disk writer.

I bought a Krate case for mine. I don’t think it’s made anymore, but there are others available.
I’m excited to try the MPE support with my Seaboard. That should be interesting….
Hope it still works flawlessly with KeyScape. I use it for ALL my pianos and epianos live…with the Omnisphere 2 engine of course.
I bet it does. Spectrasonics support of their software has always been really good in my experience. I too have Keyscape as well as Omnisphere 2 and I’m getting the Omnisphere 3 upgrade as well. I would think they have tested running Keyscape in the new version extensively before deciding to release it
