Thank you for your quick reply, as I never got one when I asked for it by email almost two months ago, and I now feel a little more reassured about the legitimacy and seriousness of your company, which I hope has nothing to do with the Chinese equipment mentioned above
Thank you for your interest. We’ve must have missed your email in the vast amount of emails that we collect each day. We were at NAMM 2024 last year with a very early prototype to start collecting info regarding our product and what musicians wanted. We started a very early pre-order campaign to gain traction and after one year of relentless designing we have a final product in our hands.
I have a spare Lenovo when I’m playing live that dates back to 2012 with a third-generation i5 processor and which perfectly supports the resource demands used on a PC with an i7-12650H
Regarding CPU power, to put things into perspective, an i5 3210m CPU from a 2013 Macbook Pro is demolished by these newer Celeron CPUs by almost 66% but at the same time you need to take into consideration air flow (and good quality parts) and how you successfully design a product that moves air quickly to be stable at even 80% CPU load non-stop on ALL conditions (not cutting corners here). So yeah, people are asking for superfast hardware but that comes at a cost ( both on the consumer side and related design costs). If this was an i7 CPU the retail price would be tripled! Furthermore, good luck moving 100W of hot air out of the device
- 16 GB max memory size : does this still allow 2 x 16 GB modules to be used in the machine?
16GB ram is the max memory size ( it is soldered on the mainboard) although the SSD m.2 is not soldered but you void the warranty if you open up the device.
I could replace these with an external disk of 1 TB + a 1 TB SD card.
Does the latter offer sufficient transfer speeds for use in Gig performer?
SD card transfer rates are at least high-speed (25mb/sec) but I need to double check that. However, you have plenty of other options for high speed transfer. There is a fully functional USB-C port on our device so you’ll have lightning fast transfers. An alternative would be to use a tiny USB 3.0 stick (there are four USB 3.0 ports on our device).
Gig Performer: what does the "Gig Perfomer (Octave version) " mean if it’s not a modified version? What’s the difference with the official Deskew Technologies version?
It is a GP version specifically made for us by Deskew with some elements missing compared with the full version. I cannot comment on what will be missing or not since we are still working on this but rest assured you will be updated once we solidify everything.
As I write this message, your site is not accessible (504 Gateway Time-out) to download the complete users guide at https://OctaveTech.eu/Manual.PDF.
As I said, this .pdf is still ‘work in progress’ (so is our website) so we will update the link once we finish with the manual.
Finally and just for fun, look at a place where I’ve played that has some similarities with the photo you posted. This is in such places that I use to play.
Really liked the place! The one that you see in the photo is a Medieval Hall dating back to the 15th Century. Cool place for gigs.
Please understand that everything I’ve said before or now is not a criticism but a simple observation: I’m very interested in this type of device for live use, which would even more simplify the volume, weight and speed of installation of my current guitar rig.
Glad that you liked our product. I just wanted to update everybody regarding our product before third parties start assuming things ( as you know, online assumptions spreads like wildfire…). Rest assured, we left no stone unturned (even designing a removable battery for your convenience). We’ll see you in NAMM 2025! Booth 1738!
Take care
