Let me preface by saying this could certainly be pilot error. I’m running about as basic as you can get. Mostly 2-4 sounds. No widget control on parameters such as EQ , efx etc. Strictly volume, which I have running through a Berhinger X touch
So, setting up for a Billy Joel tribute show. Have all my stuff set and ready to go. Instead of taking my keyboard (CK88) I used a Yamaha MX88 at rehearsal. I’m haven’t quite wrapped my head around the rig manager, so I changed the input to the MX. Of course it asks if I want to change all the blocks. I pushed yes. The MX was connected and playing fine. About half way through, I started etting drop outs a lot. Keys were just dead. Hit panic and it would return for a while and then do it again. I assumed I screwed up and didn’t think much of it. Returned home and reset it to my CK. Everythings been fine until last night. I was hitting a chord while adjusting the flange effect on a rhodes patch ( NI Phoenix) The sustain started latching and I started getting drops. Not sure what is going on. Using a Mac Book M1Pro. Don’t think it’s the laptop. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.
Can you reproduce with a simple rackspace?
Two things come to mind here.
-
Have you looked at the global midi monitor to see what the MX88 is sending? This feels like a controller issue, and this is the first time you’ve used the MX88,
-
It sounds like you have a single controller setup. If that’s the case, why not just use the “Midi In (Omni)” block which will capture any controller hooked up to your MacBook? Unless you have specific use cases for the rig manager, this would make things simpler to manage between practice and performance.

I would avoid MIDI In OMNI, as soon as you use virtual MIDI you could get MIDI Loops.
Given what seems to be a very simple setup, I would think the simplicity would outweigh that risk. If he wanted to introduce virtual midi, then he could easily swap out the midi in block in any given affected rackspace.

Or use rig manager at the beginning ![]()
Thanks for all the input.. The drops are happening on the CK88 also. I can’t use omni as I also use an Arturia Keylab 61 MKiii. So I need the separation. I think pianopaul has a point> I need to learn Rig Manager and have everything ready to go when I hit rehearsal. I just did a Jimmy Buffet tribute. 35 rack spaces and no problems whatso ever. Thanks guys. More to come.
How are these controllers actually connected to your computer? USB hub? MIDI DIN connector?
Then what changed “last night”? There’s no magic - if it was working properly before with that configuration and now it isn’t, something has to have changed.
This will not be too helfpul, but…
FWIW, I feel I have some plugins/presets that are prone to hanging notes (I think more often V Collection), especially after using the sustain pedal. In one section of Africa (Toto) that happens. I didn’t feel like troubleshooting, so I just don’t use the sustain pedal in that section.
I tend to think its issues with the particular plugin (maybe the particular patch within the plugin?).
Jeff
I think you are absolutely spot on. Just had it happen on a clav patch. Looked. Sure enough. ARTURIA. Going to remove all Arturia and see if that takes care of the problem. Thanks
I"m sorry - I’m not convinced — if an Arturia plugin was buggy, we’d expect to hear about such problems all over the place. Same with GP itself.
I’m suspecting such things as cables or insufficient power
Sure wish I knew just to be safe. I did change cables. Same thing. One thing I did do for convenience sake and so I didn’t forget…Normally I plug into a powered hub. The X touch has 2 extra usb A plug ins. I have 2 keyboards so I plug each into the X touch and then the X touch to the hub. Could that be throwing off? I did remove the few arturia plugs I was using. Not sure if it helped or not. Wasn’t getting ang glitches during the rest of practice. Thanks up to now.
You should really look at your MIDI monitor from your MIDI IN block. If 2 keyboards plus the X-touch are all coming through one port, I’m sure there may be stray MIDI messages from one of your 3 devices that is messing things up. Does Gig Performer see the MIDI messages from all 3 devices on the same MIDI port or are the devices exposed separately to Gig Performer?
Sorry guys. Haven’t been on in a bit. Life happens. Still trying to isolate these drop outs. Changed cables. Thought it might be the powered hub so I bought a new Sabrent powered hub. Let me start from scratch.

Keyboards: Yamaha CK88, Studio Logic SL88GT (in the wings), Arturia Keylab61 Mk3
Keyboards, Behringer XTouch and RME Babyface Pro FS, and a TEC Breath controller all running into the Sabrent powered hub. Into the RME All feeding a Soundcraft Ui 24The CK USB and the keylab USB is feeding the laptop for the VST’s. Since the CK has internal sounds, I’m going direct into 2 channels of the soundcraft for emergency reasons just like this. If I lose my laptop at least I can still have access to some sounds.
Most of my rack spaces are 1-3 instruments. I’ll be playing, hit a chord and half the notes of the chord are gone. I have to hit them 2 or 3 times for them to come back on. To test; When it happened, I turned up the CK. It was fine. I did check the midi monitor and when the notes went down there were still messages, just no sound. At one point I plugged the CK audio out into Inputs 1 & 2 of the RME. Set the levels. Sounded great. This time when the notes quit and I turned up the CK…Nothing, Both were dead. An aha moment. It’s the interface. Updated the driver and flash update. Tried it. still not working. So it has to be something wrong with the RME. Swapped it out with an old Presonus 26C.Worked for a short time and it started doing it. So…not the RME. I am at a loss .Could it be Gig performer. Do I need to reload it? Should I get the essential. HELP
Could it be the CK? Anyone else using it for their controller? My last shows I was using the SL88. No issues. It seems there a lot of talk about using the CK as a controller with good results.
A friend told me it’s always a good idea to connect your audio interface directly to your computer (not via hub)
Did you try that?
You’re saying it only happens when you use the CK.
Did you take a look at the CK midi settings? Is it set to Send & Receive? Maybe it should only send…
(I can think of reasons why my remarks are probably useless)
No. Great idaea. I’ll try it tonight. Thank you
