No Sound Output

I’m experience a really annoying issue, hope you guys can help:
(Using a MacBook (OSX 12, Apollo Solo & sometimes Apollo 4 2nd gen and Gigperformer 5)
When loading a gig, all my audio settings are correct, same as the last time I used the file. In the midi in block I see the notes coming in on the right midi channel, but it doesn’t send it to the plugin. It just stops there. Volume & Expression are ok, no Block Events Note input etc. In the rig manager I played around with reconnecting the midi aliases but nothing works. Looking in MidiMonitor everything seems ok. When restarting the MacBook everything works again.

Hope you guys can help me with this.

Hi, just a quick reply that may be a faster fix than restarting, I use a guitar rig but regardless I occasionally very infrequently perhaps have this issue and for me it’s always a hang up with the plugin, in my case simply opening up the GUI of that plugin and selecting another preset clears the audio issue and it streams again, don’t know why and for me its quite rare but I have been in your shoes, simply select another preset perhaps next and then previous, and boom back where you want to be, streaming now, just a thought…

Macbook M2 as well with mainly MOTU firewire, yes firewire connectivity…

  1. Are you sure the MIDI event is not being sent to the plugin, or is it being sent to the plugin but the plugin is not responding? (You can see this if you have wiring configuration set so that wires flash when MIDI or audio passes through)
  2. I assume this used to work - so presumably something changed.

Thanx for your reply!

It has always worked, but then I had to update the osx in order to use the Apollo 4….
The midi info stops at the midi in block. When I play the notes on the piano of the midi in Block, there is also no midi going to the plug in. So the midi in is ok. It just stops at the midi in plug in.

Thanx for your reply. I will check this next time the crash happens!

OK - sounds like the Apollo audio device driver is not actually running — did you give that driver permission to run when you installed it?

Initially yes. It didn’t asked me when I updated. It always worked before and it works after restarting the macbook.

But now I have to start the MacBook, load the gigfile, experience the problem, restart the MacBook, load the gigfile again.

Still sounds like a problem with the device driver - Gig Performer itself doesn’t do anything at the kernel or root level so something is going on with that driver or its hardware.

A cursory google search finds that many people are reporting crashes or failures with that device.

A recent example:

Apollo 4 (and Twin/X series) driver crashes on Mac often stem from macOS security settings, outdated firmware, or PCIe/Thunderbolt driver conflicts. Key fixes include allowing UA software in System Settings > Privacy & Security, performing a full uninstall/reinstall of UAD software, and using high-quality Thunderbolt cables.
