No more sound after break

Hey everybody,

My setup let me down recently. This was the second time it happened within several months, so I want to get to the bottom of it.

Here’s what happened, as far as I can recall:

  • I was playing keyboards with my band, and after a while, we took a break of about 20–30 minutes.
  • When we started playing again, there was no sound coming from my audio interface.
  • Since it was a live situation, I didn’t have time for a thorough analysis, but I noticed that there was output showing on the interface output levels (bottom right of the GP screen).
  • After a quick restart of GP, everything worked flawlessly again.

The first time this had happened, I restarted my MacBook, launched GP, and everything was fine.

Since I’ve had some issues with the drivers of my audio interface (Steinberg UR44C) before, I suspect it could be related to that, but I’m not sure. Is there any way to narrow it down with the information available?

Maybe something goes into some kind of sleep mode after a certain period? That shouldn’t be the case, but who knows?

I tried to reproduce the issue at home after the first time it happened—I left my MacBook running overnight and hit a key in the morning, but there was sound immediately.

I’m routing MIDI from my keyboards to variuos plugins in GP 4 (latest version). I’m using a MacBook Air M2, macOS Sonoma, and a Steinberg UR44C audio interface.

It doesn’ feel good not being able to rely on my setup, so thanks for any help!

That’s a key indicator. If output was showing there, then audio is being sent out.
That seriously implicates your audio interface as the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! So Audio is definitely being sent out of GP as the indicator is showing? This would mean it is „lost“ somewhere between GP and the output of the interface?

I feel like I need to get rid of this interface, it just make too many problems and there is virtually no support by the manufacturer. I’ve posted my previous issue in the forum there 6 months ago. I learned that someone else has the same problem but Steinberg didn’t seem to care. :confounded:
