New Behringer Hardware

In case you didn’t notice, Thomann has leaked new Behringer products. Especially the P24 Hub looks interesting, because it is the first product that lets you combine the Wing, X/M32 family and X/MR18 family. It has AES50, Ultralink and StageConnect on board.

Also, the X32 Rack’s price has been drastically reduced since Behringer announced the Wing Rack and Wing Compact.

I just bought the WING full-size, S32 Digital Stage Box, P24 Hub and P24 Personal Monitor Mixers (x5). I have the entrie system set up with AES50 and DMX style cabling for Stage Connect. My band used this system our last rehearsal and it went over in fantastic fashion. We had a couple of skeptics in the band but i mustered my technical skills to prove to them that this Aviom-like P24 technology is a game changer. They agreed after only using it for one rehearsal. The sound is crystal clear and you can’t get away with anything because you hear everything. It will make us better musicians as a result of the awareness in what we’re hearing through our IEMs. We us a hybrid kit for drums; the Alesis Strata Prime with real cymbals. It’s like rehearsing in a studio. Fantastic, and it proved i made the right decisions on putting this all together for us.

That sounds awsome. (Pun intended!) My concept is similar. I am the drummer and tech in this band.
I still have to upgrade from the X32 to the Wing, but for monitoring I use a combination of P-16HQ, Midas DP48 and stereo mix busses, fed from SD16 and SD8 stage boxes. I also have to convince two skeptics in our band, but the game-changing (I hope…) rehearsal will be next weekend.
I also play a hybrid drumset, low noise acoustic cymbals and triggering BFD3 and other drum vst; the guitarist plays a Kemper and the bassist a Tech21 SansAmp pedal. The keyboarder will try GigPerformer with my keyboard rig for the first time and I am looking forward to his reaction.
Now it is my turn to create convincing monitor mixes for the other musicians.
It is a great time to be a musician with the tech available to us.

Do you use your setup live as well and do you manage monitors and mix foh at the same time?

By the way, do you know the unofficial Behringer forum? Lots of helpful and knowledgeable people over there. Very civilized, like here.
Early adopters of the P24 stuff will be very welcome.

We’re a new band that I put together about 6 weeks ago so we’ve not played any gigs yet. The plan will be to run this same setup live. For small gigs, the WING will be next to my keys rig in a sort of set it and leave it alone kind of thing. For larger gigs, the intention is aimed at relieving the FOH from messing with our monitor mix at all. I’m working on some user patching to give us a little be of processing in the IEMs like, FX on the lead VOX mix as it makes them feel more comfortable and perform better.

Long term, for gigs without an FOH, I’m going to do a deep dive/studio on how to control certain things from gig performer such as: Triggering the WING to load different SNIPS for each song. We’re an 80’s cover band and the closer we get to the original recording, the better I personally like it.

I think you’ll be successful with this. Once your skeptical bandmates discover they can hear everything through IEMs, they’re likely not to go back. Rehearsal is one thing, out on a gig is where it counts – sell them on that part and give them an example of a gig you played where you couldn’t hear a darn thing except the singer and yourself. I’ve been there in front of 5 thousand people, it’s scary but you just cary on with the show and do your best.

Apologies for the typos in there. Not sure why I can’t edit and fix them.

Thanks, we will see. The guitarist is quite convinced that he can’t play live comfortably without the physical and emotional experience a loudspeaker gives him. But who knows…

Are you doing this professionally?
Good luck and success with the new band!

Yep, I know…

Last time I heard also “organic”, don’t know exactly what it means for a guitar amp, but our guitarist said it in a so passionate way, that I suppose it means something for him…

One thing I always hear from guitarists is that they need to feel the air moving… well hearing their amp it can’t be, because most of the time it is placed so that it addresses mostly the backside of their shins…

Old dog, new tricks syndrome. Lol

No. Not really even semi-pro because the guys in this current configuration have too much going on in their personal lives. They are a really goid bunch of musicians so I’ll settle for now. We’re looking at playing gigs twice a month max during the busy seasons. This has been a dream of mine for about 30 years and the tech is finally made it down to the local bands level.
