Moving GIGs between computers

Hi Gang,

So I have my gigging laptop and my workstation. I would LOVE to program/tweak everything on the workstation, and then just take the gig file over to my laptop. Obviously, 2 different types of Audio Devices, 2 different sets of keyboard controllers, but all the plugins are the same, and mapped to the same hard drive locations on both computers.

Is the Rig Manager data located in the GIG file, or in GP itself on each computer? I had some “MIDI in” issues when trying a test GIG (I was able to get both computers to recognize my “lower” keyboard, but it would not recognize the “upper” - I didn’t even look at mapping other stuff), so I am thinking it is the latter. If I am correct, does anyone have any tips to work on GIG files between computers?

FWIW - the Rig Manager works perfectly when using solely on my laptop and switching between 2 sets of controllers (for rehearsing and gigging).

So to summarize, we are talking about switching between 2 computers and 3 sets of MIDI controllers (gigging controllers, practice controllers, and workstation controllers).

Best,
Joe

It is located on the computer - it is not part of the gig file.
You can export the rig manager file and import it on a different machine.

Then on the imported machine you set your physical devices as needed and you are ready to go.

Excellent. Thank you. I will play with this over the weekend. Once working, this will save a HUGE amount of time!

I am programming from scratch 4 hours of Yes music. To be able to sit at the workstation will be a Godsend! Or a pianopaul send

Thanks David,

I apologize for some (not all!) of these questions…

Unfortunately I am in the throws of this conversion from Forte trying to get ready for this show at the Keswick. So the time I should be spending reading/learning/experimenting is being spent programming. I appreciate everyone’s hand-holding.

Because I am curious:
How do you create all the orchester sounds for “Owner of a Lonely Heart”?

@pianopaul

Well, there are the James Brown horn type stabs in the bridge…those are just M1 Brass Section layered with some other sample-based trumpet sounds.

As for the “hits” that originated from the Fairlight (the Malcolm McLaren samples), I have copies of the originals and imported them into Kontakt. Here you go…
