Mono mixdown

As for what happens when two wires are connected to one input, I did search this forum before I started my new layout, and I found these pre-GP4 posts. They seem to indicate that “summing” is the answer, not a true mono mixdown, but I’d love to hear an update from those with more intimate knowledge of GP4.

Design principles

If you connect any number of channels to one other channel - they will be summed to that one channel. So yes - if you connect two (or more) wires from your stereo output into one mono gain control - they will be summed up. Typically - a hardware mixer will have a lot of mono inputs for microphones and instruments, but also quite a few stereo inputs should be available. Stereo to Mono

I have a question for the general group. Most of my use of GP is at gigs where the FOH and monitors are both Mono, so when you do your connections do you just connect one side (like Left outputs only) or do you always connect both sides of stereo plugins to one output of the audio interface? Just curious about how most folks handle this.

I decided to just go with the summing, using a Gain Control to compensate for the increased volume, and to my ears it sounds fine – what am I missing compared to a correct mono mix? Also my wiring varies - in some places it’s summing L and R signals into one mono input, but in other places it’s actually summing 2 or 3 Left outputs to one input and 2 or 3 Right outputs to another input. I didn’t want to clutter things up even further with instances of mono-maker plugins.
