Mono input to stereo plugins - wiring?

Hi all - what’s the best/standard approach to cabling a mono input such as guitar or microphone from audio interface to FX plugins which all have a stereo input?

  1. One cable from the input to the left input of the two plugin inputs?
  2. Two cables from the input to both inputs of the plugin?
  3. Another way - maybe a Gain plugin in between?

#2 … works flawlessly!

In GP you can look at the bus configuration of the plugin instance. Many plugins support switching the input bus from stereo to mono.
