Missing MIDI input

Hello - on my newly created backup computer, I’m not getting any sound from my Casio PX-5S. When I go into General MIDI options I do not see an available port. I have tried reseating and swapping all connections, powering everything off and restarting, and no luck.

Here’s the connectivity:
PX-5S (not working) >>>MIDI out 5 pin port >> MOTU M2 MIDI IN 5 pin port >> MOTU USB-C >>Macbook USB #1

Keylab MK II (working fine) >>> USB MIDI >>> Macbook USB #2

This question is unclear and confusing.

Sound out of your Casio has nothing to do with MIDI - where do you think the sound should be coming from?

You indicated that your PX-5S is connected to a MOTU M2 so the M2 is your MIDI port and it shows up quite clearly in that screen shot (the third one down).

Here’s the equivalent screen on the main MacBook where everything is working fine. As you can see Casio MIDI shows up. That Casio PX-5S is connected via 5-pin MIDI to the MOTU.

stand by for correct screenshot

I think this may be a MOTU interface driver initialization issue on the backup MacBook. looking into that now.

OK - again — there is no way for a computer to have an ID for a 5 pin MIDI cable so the only thing it can detect is your MIDI interface that’s connected by USB to your computer. That was the M2.
If it is now displaying Casio MIDI then you must have renamed the port in Audio MIDI Settings.

In any case, this still does not answer any questions.

For example, if you open the global MIDI Monitor in Gig Performer and play your keyboard, do you see MIDI messages arriving in?

Yes I do see all midi messages. How do I go about renaming the port back to Casio midi so it’s consistent with my rackspaces? I’m on GP 4.5

Please show a screen shot of your messages?
Also, if your MIDI interface portname changes, then use the Rig Manager to deal with it.

I do see how to make the midi input change in one midi input block in a rack space where it asks me if I want to apply that changes to all rack spaces. My concern with that is this (backup MacBook) would be different than the main MacBook. Would the gif file have this config update stored? Trying to keep long term backups in mind (keeping the backup laptop in synch with change/)

That is the purpose of the Rig Manager

Again, that is the purpose of the Rig Manager

I did get it to work by selecting m2 input in the midi in block. For now I should be good as a backup. Thanks. I’ll review rig manager, haven’t delved into that yet.

Hey spartan_don,

I’M using the PX-5s by myself.
Under Windows you can simply connect it via USB to the PC to use it as a separate MIDI IN/Out Device (also showing up with its correct name).
Don’t know if this is possible on your MAC but for me it is helpful not “blocking” the midi connection of my soundinterface.
