Hello Community,
I’ve been using Logic as my live platform for over 20 years. Now I’ve reached the point where I’m switching to Gig Performer. What I noticed right away is that I seem to have very limited options for transforming MIDI events, compared to Logic’s Transform function. Do you have any suggestions on how to achieve this without using scripts? An external plug-in that I can load into Gig Performer would not be a problem.
What transform functions do you need?
Why not use scripting?
So this is for a midi file you want to play in GP’s midi file player?
Logic’s Transform function is designed to apply changes to MIDI data already stored on a track (e.g, increase (or scale) the velocity of all notes (possibly within a certain range) or change a CC number to another CC number, and so on - obviously more complex things, but really intended to “fix” MIDI in a track.
What kind of things would you want to be “fixing” in real time?
I’m still at the beginning and have only transferred 2 songs to Gig Performer so far. Here’s what I noticed right away:
-
Within a split range, I’d like to be able to transpose just a single note, or set a fixed velocity value, without having to use three separate MIDI In blocks.
-
Mute certain notes within a split zone.
-
Octave-shift specific notes within a split zone and at the same time either fix the velocity or adjust it (e.g. make it 30 points softer or louder than the velocity value coming from the keyboard).
I’m not that far with scripting yet…
No, not a MIDI file. I already wrote an answer further down.
No. I used Logic for my live performances and in the Environment I made extensive use of the Transform object to convert MIDI events in real time.

Maybe MIDI Chord Maker would help (others know more than me). (I seem to recall a post by DHJ (Developer of GP) on the uses of MIDI Chord Maker.
What was the source of these MIDI events —- tracks or what you’re playing?
The ChordMaker plugin can block notes as well as transpose them. But if you want to configure individual notes to have unique values, then the only way to do that in the current version would be with multiple MIDI In blocks or with a GPScript scriptlet.
Chord Maker is already the solution for muting. I had thought it was only for creating chords. Thanks! With a bit of experimenting, I can now exclude notes within a split.
thx. Jeffn1 already posted this, and I answered: Chord Maker is already the solution for muting. I had thought it was only for creating chords. Thanks! With a bit of experimenting, I can now exclude notes within a split.
I’ll take a look at scripting later.
If you think about it - the ChordMaker can also be used to do a split by simply first blocking all notes and then unblocking the ones you want ![]()
