MIDI and Song Parts

Hopefully an easy one: I am assigning MIDI messages to call Song parts, so I see this can be done by assigning a PC in Song Part properties. But also I see in Options/Setlist that any MIDI message can be assigned to 24 Song Parts - what is this for exactly?
Thanks

This is for assigning a number to specific song part in a specific song. For example, the 2nd song part of Wish You Were Here.

This is for assigning a MIDI message to trigger any one of 24 song parts in the song that is currently selected. For example, if you assign a message to Song Part 2, then whichever song you’re in you can trigger this to go to the second song part of that song. Useful for those who would want to assign song parts to footswitches.

Ah great thanks - so two different messages could call the same song part. I geddit
PS does that mean there is a max of 24 song parts to every song, or is that just the limit of messages that can be set in Options/Setlist?

You know, I’ve never tried to create that many song parts!
Feel free to try to create more than 24 and report back on what happens.

Lol - Well I just created 30 so 24 must be limit set on that option in Options/Setlist
Guess that’s enough to be going on with

You can always break your song into two songs, each with 25 parts

Or else use GPScript

24 might be a practical limit as it seems GP only displays up to 24 song part buttons. 25 and beyond can be in the list on the left but not have a button.
There was me expecting the song part buttons to scroll as you stepped through the list but seems they are static.
No big deal as, as you say - I could always have a second song if I need more parts.

Just for what it’s worth, the intent of those particular buttons is for (typically) guitarists using a MIDI pedalboard with multiple rows of buttons to have direct access to up to 24 song parts. That seemed like a sufficient number!
