Media not working on any other app that gigperformer

When I run GigPerformer on Mac (OS 14 M1) every other app is unable to play/decode any media. It includes any media played on a browser like YouTube, or videoconference apps like Skype.

How to solve this?

Are you using a dedicated audio interface?

Yes, please add more context. What do you do, what way you need to run Gig Performer?

Are you a performing musician?

What is your audio interface?

Do you use an aggregate audio device?

Thank you for replying.

I had made a screenshot video for support but I can’t post yet here as a new user.

I have two setups:
In practice studio: Mac - “external headphone” (basically a jack to the mixing table) so no audio interface in that case
At home: Mac - ssl2+ in usb C

I don’t use an aggregate audio device. Sometimes restarting the Mac solves the issue. I am trying to understand the pattern of when I end up in that situation but have not been able to figure it out so far.

Now you should be able to upload

Which of the setups is not working? Or are both affected?

I have no certitude regarding the setup, I’ll update when I get a new occurrence but it’s working right now.

I have another issue tonight, the same pattern with the setup with the SSL 2+. I just put my laptop to sleep for the day and tonight it’s like that (I disconnected and reconnected the interface).
It worked for 1hour but with weird latency on loading videos but right now every video crashed with a “restart your computer”.

I have NEVER trusted “sleep” since the early days of hibernation — you’re depending on all the driver developers to properly handle that stuff, correctly re-initializing stuff, etc.

Just shutdown and startup — it really doesn’t take that long and it’s much more reliable.

For the record, it keeps happening, it’s not related to sleep mode, more when I am tweaking VSTs inside gigperformer.

One experiment to try please. Run gig performer with an empty gig file. In that situation, can you play other media?

I always sleep my computer and never turn off. No issues. Something else maybe happening.
Windows or Mac?
Software update recently?
Have you checked your services?
How about startup apps?
Can you update your driver to your audio interface?
If on Mac - can you verify if you do not have duplicates of your interface or other devices?

I have no issue, but since I still fail to understand what is the actual trigger it might just be a coincidence.

I actually happens independently to sleep mode. I use Mac with Sequoia. Nothing special in background app, and startup apps I have a very minimal setup I use this computer only for music.
I don’t have duplicate of my interface.

The problem did not occur since I switched from macOS 14 to macOS 1a week ago. I’ll keep you posted if I get new insight.

Hey I still have the issue, I can’t believe I am the only one. I am pretty tired of using GigPerformer for because of this issue. The software takes 2min to start but then I can’t practice because the videos won’t load until I close GP and reopen it again. Is there anyway support can try and address this ?

Well - never seen this before – nobody has ever reported this issue before – no idea what’s going on. GP itself knows nothing about the rest of your system - it is only using standard OS APIs to communicate with other devices.

So you reported in Feb 23 that this (not sure exactly from what macOS to what macOS you made since your sentence is incomplete) was no longer a problem.

So now you’re saying it has started happening again? Something has changed on your system –

What version of GP are you using? And are you using it completely natively or are you partially running under Rosetta (for Intel AUs) in which case all bets are off

If you just create a new gig file (create it, save, quit GP, then reopen empty gig file to make sure nothing else is loaded) does this problem occur?
