Rig Rundown: with Brent Cobb

I really am enjoying this rig for organ! Gig Performer with a Stream Deck! Used it at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio CA with the artist Brent Cobb.

The Stream Deck is definitely an important player with this particular rig. I built the Stream Deck into the organ. I use the setlist functionality a ton, and have programed various OSC and MIDI controls to buttons wherever needed.

It functions as my primary tactile control surface for anything other than organ, which I’m using the D9X to control.

In some situations where I’m also playing other instruments I’ll integrate the Stream Deck and the Fractal together for deeper control over instrument switching and just having options of where I controls things.

The Audio interface in this particular situation was my Fractal Axe-FX3. I had a couple other gigs this weekend at Stagecoach on other instruments with other artists that my fractal was apart of the rigs for. I just made sense to also use it for the keys interface. Its really flexible and has 8 outs.

I also use the fractal multiband Comp on the outputs which does a great job.

The cabs are Fender Tone Master Full Range cabs. They sound fantastic and are 1000w each. Highly recommend them.

Plugins used at the Stage Coach festival:

  • B3-X primarily for organ and VB3 here and there.
  • Arturia Wurli,
  • Rhodes V8,
  • Pianoteq,
  • Arturia Piano for upright.

Other plugins:

  • SSL Channel Strips
  • Soft SSL Limiters on the Global rackspace outputs.
  • Reverbs are mostly Slate plugins.

I recently switched to Gig Performer from Mainstage and am LOVING it!

Mainstage was never very stable in my experiences with it. That was the primary reason. Now that I’ve dug into Gig Performer, the flexibility and workflow is a game changer.

I used my rig live for the first time the other night and couldn’t be happier. Here’s some pics of the organ controller I put together.

It’s a Hammond M3 body with a custom back panel. I’m controlling GSI VB3 via a GM Lab D9-X and a Stream Deck.

The integration between Gig Performer and the Stream Deck is really fantastic.

Laptop goes inside the organ and a mirrored display on the iPad gives me visual feedback on controls.

I am using the Stream Deck extension! It works AMAZINGLY. What an incredible asset in this particular build.
