Hi, I was able to get a reconditioned Mac Studio Pro with very good specs at an attractive price. While a bit on the heavy side, it seems manageable and an ideal host for GP and plug-ins. What I’m wondering about is, it certainly has enough USB ports to connect all the peripherals I would need, but anyone knows if the Mac alone could power 2 keyboard controllers and a USB powered audio interface without problems? Or more?
Thanks
I would suggest getting a powered USB Hub. A lot of people here like Anker. Maybe search the forum for more details?
Thanks, I have a powered hub and I know it works fine. What I’d like to know is if anybody has tested a hub-less configuration with good results.
Depends 100% on how much power the specific devices you’re using need and whether the USB ports can accommodate that power.
USB dongles that measure port voltage and curent draw are readily available and cheap, I would suggest grabbing one and seeing exactly what your devices are demanding and how it stacks up against the specs.
Thanks, this is interesting. Could you point me to one of these just to make sure what would be the correct type of device?
Just search Amazon for “usb current meter” you’ll get more choices than you care for! My opinion is they are all pretty much the same.
Also, be wary of pulling current that is technically available but very near the maximum provided.
One extra benefit of a decent but inexpensive powered hub is that it protects your computer
