M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61

Hi,

I’m a newbie to GP 5.0 and have just installed the trial version for Intel Mac.

Having binge watched a few GP YT videos I’m learning how to make my Pro 61 map to plugins and wondered if there were any general watch outs to be aware of as I get going?

I tried mapping G-Force Minimonsta controls to the Pro 61 and couldn’t get the knobs and sliders on the hardware to move the knobs and sliders in the plugin.

What did I miss?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

  1. Check if your keyboard is available in the MIDI ports list:
    MIDI Ports

  2. Check if there is some MIDI data coming into Gig Performer by using the Global MIDI monitor and then playing some notes and pushing some buttons and dragging some faders…
    Global MIDI Monitor

As a general advice i would recommend that you configure your keyboard controllers to use CC# messages (especially the buttons)!

Place a knob or fader widget on your panel, check the MIDI Tab, press “learn” and then move your knob or fader on the keyboard… the widget should then be “connected” to that MIDI source.
On the right hand side of the widget dialog, you see the “Mapping” where you then connect the widget with a plugin and its parameter.
So the final signal chain would be:
keyboard controller (MIDI) → widget (host automation) → plugin/parameter

Learn how to use the Rig Manager and its benefits before diving too deep into rackspace creation.

Avoid “OMNI MIDI” blocks in the wiring view until you exactly know what you’re doing and why - OMNI might be the easiest way to go at first glimpse, but is probably causing issues at some point, because it really catches everything which comes flying in.

Thanks schamass, that’s very helpful.

I have a Kronos 2 as my bottom keys and will get to that once I’ve worked through your guidance above.

Thanks again,

Especially when you use more than one keyboard, it’s important to keep the MIDI-In blocks separated for each keyboard and not use an OMNI block!
This is also a constellation where the Rig Manager is your best friend!

M-Audio Oxygen’s MIDI Pro implementation is very tricky and not stable in some situations. I gave up at some point, maybe I’ll try again sometime.

The Korg Kronos 2 is ideal for this, look here:

Thanks @SirTommes, just followed this and it’s an excellent guide. I can also get the Pro 61 to play plugins as a separate MIDI input. Not bad progress for the first day of the GP trial.

I sense reading the Community forum there seem to be compromises whatever MIDI keyboard controller you choose. Joe Luca has the kind of approach I want to use so I’m following his videos closely :eyes:
