Has anyone come across an Intel Mac-compatible plugin with the ability to record and loop midi performance data in real-time performance situations?
***Note: I am not looking for audio loopers with MIDI control interfaces. For this I am using MSuperLooper. ***
A search reveals Repeto (site does not load) MidiLooper (Windows VST only) and several full DAW-like programs which would not work within GP.
Updates:
Helpfully suggested below are:
Atom Piano Roll 2 (not Intel compatible)
Midi Tape Recorder (AUv3 - not compatible with GP4 at this time)
Repeto- works! But limited to 4 measures per loop.
No doubt! Or a built-in combo midi/audio looper. Go right for the Mobius crowd.
It’s certainly an idea that would get a ton of use, but not really a core competency of the software. Do you have a feature request logged? If so, did it receive traction?
Yes! MIDI Tape Recorder: MIDI Tape Recorder - Perfectly and effortlessly record and play MIDI (uwyn.com)
It’s free and MPE compatible. I also use Atom Piano Roll 2 on iOS (may also be Mac compatible) to be able to do synchronized launching of different parts, but it is currently unable to live loop (you need to predetermine the duration). Loopy Pro will also soon be ported to Mac, and MIDI looping is in the works (not sure the timeline).
Good suggestions, but neither is a fit for me. Midi Tape Recorder is incompatible with GP (pending support of AUv3,) and Atom Piano Roll 2 works only on Apple Silicon macs… not my i7 machine.
Darn! I have a PC, didn’t realize that the AUv3 support was host-dependent on Macs. Just to throw it out there, this is exactly what pushed me into iOS-world. Initially I used my phone, but eventually picked up an iPad. Depending on what you are doing you wouldn’t need a particularly expensive device. And on a Mac it is much easier than PC to set up, you can even send MIDI back and forth wirelessly (I believe bluetooth over Midimittr is a good solution). Alternatively, there are several hardware sequencers that are capable of live looping (including Squarp Pyramid and Hapax).
I’m afraid the way I’m doing things requires me to use a Mac plugin… I am already sending midi and audio all over via the network, and can’t afford the latency of any more hops.
I’ve got quite a complex rig meant to do some very specific things… so I’m quite locked in.
