LiquidSonics - Great Reverb

It’s Black Friday season at LiquidSonics. Their plugins are worth checking out.

To my ears, their reverbs sound great, but one feature in their “pro” versions sets them apart - built in dynamics. You can do ducking within the plugin, and they’ve architected it so you can have a full early reflection while only ducking the tail, This is the key to a professional reverb sound. The early reflection provides a soundstage and character. The tail gives a full sound, but can muddy everything. By ducking only the tail, we get the works.

I own Seventh Heaven Pro ($$) , which is IR based. It has character and is somewhat tweakable. For live use, this is probably all I need. Every patch sounds good and can be dialed in to sound wonderful.

Cinematic Rooms ($$$) is algorithmic, and super clean. For big mixes and clarity, this would be the way to go. It has a chorus section, but it has limited intensity. It’s for subtle color, not effects. On isolated tracks in a quiet environment, it sounds pettier than 7th H to me, but that subtlety might be lost on live rock & roll. If I were doing live jazz mixes, I’d get it for sure.

Tai Chi ($) is the best bargain, and this would be my choice for sweeping synths. It’s algorithmic and has a stronger chorus effect for more creative sounds. I’d definitely get the full version ($99) for the integrated ducking, but the $29 lite version could be used with a compressor with sidechain (external ducking) on a budget. I plan to pick this up.

They all do surround, but don’t let that distract from the fact that they sound great for live stereo.

And definitely look into reverb ducking if you’ve never tried it. A dry, live mix can sound stark, yet in many venues it can also sound muddy as the reflections build up. Ducking is the perfect solution, adding clean, full character and placement in the soundstage.

The sale ends Dec 9.

Be aware that LiquidSonics has a loyalty program, here.

If you want multiple products, the general wisdom is to purchase from least to most expensive. After each purchase, send your email to the link at the bottom of that page, and they reply with your personal discount coupons. The coupons stack.

I now own the full versions of Seventh Heaven and Tai Chi. Stacking those coupons gives me 40% off my next purchase. I might just get Cinematic Rooms before the Black Friday sale ends. Talk about an effective marketing strategy…

I’ve been using Seventh Heaven for a while, with an external sidechain compressor. Every patch sounds smooth and professional. I recently got the pro version, and it’s a nice step up. Having an integrated compressor is nice, ducking just the tails really works, and there are many more rooms and spaces included. The UI is better too.

I got Tai Chi recently and, yes, you can push the chorus to get ugly. Very different from 7H, which always sounds pleasant. I’ll use Tai Chi when I want to give synth sounds more motion. I also appreciate the integrated compressor and nice UI.

These two tools are really all you need. I might just get Cinematic Rooms Pro too, specifically for cleaner instruments like piano, orchestral sounds, and the final mix bus, but this is frankly a luxury. Seventh Heaven can handle all of those tasks just fine, but it’s not quite as transparent as CR. For live pop and rock, 7H sounds absolutely great.

Oh, and they all have zero latency, as all reverbs should. CPU use seems reasonable. If you’re short on RAM, 7H will be a touch heavier than CR and TC.

I have some reverb plugs from Waves and some others. They sound clunky compared to these. The LiquidSonics plugins have such a nice, silky quality that come across, right out of the box.

OK, already. $179 gone. Downloading SH Pro now. Slowly. And that’s after spending almost 2 hours downloading and installing Win11 Pro 24H2. Super productive morning. :upside_down_face:

EDIT: 9.1 GB for SH Pro. That explains it.

Yeah, if the goal is a quick download, Seventh Heaven Pro wouldn’t be my first choice.
