I just saw that Korg updated Korg Collection to V4. It appears the primary changes are the addition of two instruments, a facelift to the interface and native Apple silicon support. I was wondering if anyone here has upgraded and if they think it is worth it. I’m primarily using Triton Extreme VST from Korg Collection 3 for a number of bread and butter items with some dabbling of M1 and wavestation here and there.
The Upgrade price from Collection 3 was 99 Eur for me which was totally worth it.
The Microkorg ist a really nice synth with lots of good and well known Patches . Even more interesting for me was the KAOSS Pad VST which ist great for adding some crazy Filter, phaser etc stuff on the fly. I will use it with the xy Pad in my Code 61 Controller.
@Beatlab , do the new interfaces scale (unlike KC 3)? That alone might be worth the price of admission. Reading the interfaces on my 14" MacBook Pro is challenging for these old eyes.
LoL. I still use my trusty rusty old Korg Triton Rack every day and spent a lot of effort and $$$ to keep that usable, and I was an enthusiastic customer of the Collection when it first came out and have purchased each upgrade as they became available. Korg seems to make steady progress on the interfaces, usability and generally additional goodies and decent crossgrade pricing on other products especially during sales periods. I recently purchased their Wavestate native software plugin and I’m having a lot of fun with that. I generally use the Triton, Triton Extreme, and Prophecy plugins on a regular basis, and as I mess around with some of the others I often find some use for them too. One thing that is also worth mentioning is all the keyboard emulations include all the expansion board samples (EXBs) that were very expensive additional addons back in the day (and present too). From someone who bought almost all of them and most of the other options (SCSI anyone?) for my Rack I can’t tell you what a good deal the collection is if you are one of these old products users. It’s also really handy to see what you are doing on a big monitor than the tiny LED screen on the original product, and I won’t even begin to explain the tediousness of data entries on the old originals. I wish they’d do a Rack emulation one of these days, but I am rambling on.
I’ve poked around the new additions - seems it’s more than two, but they look interesting, and I am really liking the Wavestate native plugin. For those who don’t know about a lot of the Korg stuff, almost all of them run as regular desktop applications as well as VSTs which a lot of other software doesn’t do. Am I biased - yes. Do I like Korg - yes, long time fan, so I like to support them where possible as the long-term satisfaction with the brand is very high in my case.
To be honest I´m not sure if there is a difference between scaling/sceen size options in V3 vs V4 but I can confirm that there are screen size options in the menu of all of the included VSTs.
What needs to be mentioned, and what’s still annoying even with the 3rd Update of Triton/Triton Extreme: it’s still not possible to import PCG files from the legacy hardware.
The only answer of the Korg support is: we are forwarding your suggestions … bla!
I still have my old Triton pro classic here, with tons of sounds used the last 20 years, but the only way to access them is by a “sheet interface” - annoying!
For the moment I’m fine with the KLC3 - KLC4 does currently not bring any additional value of me personally

I pulled the trigger on the upgrade this morning, however I need to do a good full backup prior to installing ‘just in case’ I run into issues. The MicroKorg looks like an interesting add, and I always love another vocoder
I don’t know about you all, but one complaint I’ve had about any of the Korg Collection (through V3 at least) is that gain in general seems way lower than almost any other plugins I use. Has anyone else noticed this?
