Kontakt Slow Loading

This is more of a Kontakt issue than a GP issue. And it looks like this is a common issue, but I figured I would raise it here because it is such a great community.

I am using Kontakt 6.7.1 (and latest version of GP)

Kontakt works fine with other libraries, but, for some reason a new library, Growlin’ Sax, is very slow to load (the one plugin along takes 4 minutes!).

The developer suggested doing batch re-save. That worked once, but then it reverted back.

Now, it doesn’t seem to make any difference when I do it again.

Windows Defender is off and I even tried pointing exclusions to that folder.

So, I figured I’d raise it here in case anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks!

I added some questions regarding the Kontakt versions 7+8 here: Komplete 15 - #14 by tripleB

It’s more related to macOS, but maybe same/similar mechansim/causes on Windows?

How is loading time in Kontakt Standalone?

Same.

It’s a little weird. When you drag the nki into Kontakt, nothing appears to happen, except there is a small icon that shows up. You can’t tell if it’s loading. (I can get you a screenshot I took tomorrow).

Then, if I drag the l nki in.again, you get the blue waiting circle for about 4 minutes before it loads up.

Then it seems to work fine.

Ok, so it seems it is an issue of the nki Instrument.

Did you do this?

What does batch resave actually do? The explanation here doesn’t really, well, explain it

The batch-resave is often referenced as fix when loading a lib/nki does take a long time, as the discussion of this thread started.

I found some more articles about optimizing Kontakt this morning, however I will only be able from Thursday evening on to check these.

I’ll come back later on this!

Yes, that’s what I did.

And no improvement?

It improved once.

But, since I restarted my laptop the following day, slow start up.

I’ll try to track the time each time. To see if it is always 10 minutes (worst)(includes 4 minutes for that library) or a bit better.

Jeff

what happens when you save as a new instrument?
Or is that not possible because of copy protection?

Save the preset in Kontakt?

I can research that and try it. (I’ve never done that)

Jeff

Give a new name

Then Save

Then set this options and save

Load the previous new saved preset.

Thx!

I’m off to work, but I’ll try that later.

Do you think I should create the Kontakt user preset while in GP or stand-alone?

Jeff

[Also another thought is that this library uses a proprietary plugin called “Smart Delay”. This is used in recording midi. It runs through the midi data and it is intended to make the saxophone sound recording sound more realistic. It is not relevant for me (real time live use).

Since I only use this for real time performance, I did not install this plugin. But, maybe Kontakt is looking for it and this slowing down loading?]

Maybe, I am no the export.
Do that preset save with the standalone version.

I would think both would be the same.

It might be a bit easier to do it in GP. Then I would save it as a new Gig File. So, it should load up using the new preset as part of the saved state.

But, I have that other theory I am looking into too (regarding Smart Delay).

Thanks for thinking about this.

Jeff

Nope, could not save the .nki as another preset.

Correction: I was able to save as a new preset. It just took a while. But, done. But loading still takes a while.

How about trying to save it as a GP user preset. Would that make any difference?
GP user presets tend to be solid so I am hoping that will work.
