At a gig today, while I was loading the gig file, I got a message I think about updating a plugin I believe it may have been Valhalla.
I should have taken a picture or notes!
I just declined whatever they were suggesting I install (although I think it was Valhalla, I am not not so sure. I use the free Valahalla plug as part of a NARF soundpack).
Everything seemed to work fine. But, I suppose I should check the rackspaces that use the Valhalla plugin.
I just loaded my (same) gig file and did not get any message. Everything seems to work.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Did you get a similar prompt while loading GP recently?
I don’t even think it was connected. For all I know it could have just asked if I wanted to “install” an update. (But, true, I have not bothered turning off wifi at gigs).
I feel sure I wasn’t connected to the internet at the gig.
I really should have taken a picture of the screen. My bad.
Maybe it was downloaded at home (while connected to the internet) and then the message popped up next time I started GP.
I guess the main reason I am posting is to see if anyone experienced anything similar event or might have an idea what’s going (again, my fault I don’t remember what the pop up said, except it asked me if I wanted to do something (update? install?). It happened while the gig file was loading, likely when it installed the plugin triggering the prompt. I declined, then it continued loading the gig file and everything seems to function perfectly.
That hasn’t happened to me. I have Phase Plant, Snap Heap and all of the Essential snap-ins installed (I haven’t purchased any of the Premium snap-ins yet). I just ran the kiloHearts installer and couldn’t find any reference or option to automatically run. It doesn’t show up in Windows Startup Apps or Processes tabs in Task Manager. I have received the update window you referenced when I manually started the installer AND there was a version update available, which I, of course, allowed to run. If you’re on a Mac, I can’t help you.
The developer suggested I do a “clean reinstall” of the Kilohearts Essentials, following the procedure below. But, I want to be cautious before I do it. (I use it without any “third party content banks”.) Basically I just use it exactly as directed by Narfsounds.
So, dumb question. If I do a clean install in the same location (default), should I expect that everything in the Gig File would work. (I could rescan the plugin, no problem). But it should just return its “saved state”?
Any suggestions to before I proceed? Thanks!
I don’t have that particular plugin, but I’ve done re-installs on several others and all went well. Always re-scan with the Plugin Manager after re-installing.
I can’t find anything in Kilohearts installer or plugins that would cause their installer to run, other than clicking on the .EXE file. They have both online and offline installers, but it shouldn’t matter which one you have.
You have said that Kilohearts plugins were installed along with NARF Sounds. The only thing on his website that is GP5 related is his packages for Arturia’s V Collection. Kilohearts isn’t mentioned. I think this is something caused by whatever you installed from NARF, not Kilohearts.
So:
What NARF products have you installed?
How/when did Kilohearts show up during the NARF installation?
What Kilohearts plugins were installed? Just their free Essentials snap-ins that NARF might be referencing in their V Collection presets?
I think you need to troubleshoot your NARF installation. Something is triggering the Kilohearts installer and it’s not Kilohearts doing anything automatically.
NARF just directed me to the Kilohearts page to download and install Kilohearts essentials.
I’ll try a clean reinstall (suggested by Kilohearts) and report back.
The good news is at a show I will see that it stopped loaded due to the prompt and just say “yes” to the prompt and everything seems to work fine. (If I walk away and don’t see the prompt, it seems the the Gig file load fails after a while and I have to restart it).
It sounds like the very act of loading that plugin is enough to trigger something inside the plugin … maybe it’s doing a check for updates and there’s an update
if you are on Windows, maybe something is detecting an incomplete install, thereby triggering a “repair”? (I don’t really know windows enough so this is speculation)
Is the computer connected to the Internet? If so, what happens if you are not connected to the Internet and you load the gig? Gig Performer itself has no idea what the plug-in wants to do. Have you reached out to the developer to ask them what might make their plug-in automatically prompt to install?
Yes, I reached out to the developer. He suggested a clean reinstall:
I will do that tomorrow (I have a gig tonight).
I probably do not check that Wifi is off for each gig. But, it is intermittent, so if I keep Wifi off and it does not do it, it does not really prove anything (at least not initially).
I’ll touch base with what happens after the Kilohearts reinstall (tomorrow).
