Keyscape really that Heavy?

Got yesterday my Keyscape. Installed it, but I get Crackles once in a while (very annoying).

Computer i9-11900k runnig on 5Ghz,
keyscape on separate SAMSUNG Pro Plus NVMe2.0 PCIEx4
32Gb DDR4 3600 memory

I can run 6 TAL-J8 plus 3 Knifonium without any issues, or Like 8 Kontakt instance plus some TAL’s
But when i replace eg. “The Grandeur” in Kontakt with the Keyscape C7, within a short time the crackles are there… So it makes me wonder if I made the wrong purchase.

Is anyone having same experience ? ( I tried Thinning, and also playing with Preload and Steam Brake )

I am using it on Mac and face no issue.
Some patches are quite heavy, but played alone no issue.
Something I resample them using the BLISS resampled.
BLISS can export SF Files and I import them in Kontakt 5, make and Instrument and play that instrument with Kontakt 6.

Do you wait with playing until all samples are loaded.
You know the option to thin the samples?=

Yes I tried Thinning, it makes a slight difference. But still occasional crackles, and I’d hate when this happens on stage.

Found an interesting thread about this in another forum, and there someone also just build a new i9-11900 and ran into the same issues, and on his old i7 everything just ran smooth…
Also someone mentioned running the Presets in Omnisphere runs better then in Keyscape. Unfortunately I cant test as I don’t own OmniSphere. Maybe someone else has the same experience

Can you upload a small gig with Keyscape in where I could check on my System?

Sure !! Do you have NI Komplete Ultimate ? As there I no use of putting presets that you dont have

It will be later tonight, but I will prepare as small gig

Yes I have the Ultimate Ultimate Supra Edition, everything.

I have a Core i7 @3GHz and 16gb of RAM and an internal 2T SSD. No problème with Keyscape. But I don’t like their C7 :grimacing:

I just experimented with the C7 Studio in Keyscape with repetitive 4 note chords and it would run at about 24-28 percent. Doing the same in Omnisphere it would run at about 13-18 percent. Interesting…

Ok Experimented also a bit more. I have two 1Tb of these PCIEx4 NVMe2.0 disks, and had Native Komplete Content on the Same dive as Keyscape. So thought maybe both ar fighting for disk access. Move Keyscape now the other disk, and also (just found out that there was an update for Keyscape, as I did install it yesterday from the Boxed edition). So now I’m using the VST3 version.

Just made a gig to see if I can get the crackles:

Load 4 Keyscape Instances (3 C7’s (no Thinning include release samples, and an MKS80), In Kontakt: Strings, Choir, and a Grandeur and Additionally a Roland Cloud SRX Orchestra.

Just cant seem to get any crackles yet… Before I could not even run 1 instance without activating “Thinning” to prevent crackles.
Don’t know what was the biggest influence (update or moving to other drive), but it did the trick for sure.

@David-san: I totally agree, I don’t like the C7 also that much (I like the EPianos). Since I started fiddling with the Grandeur, I’m a big fan of that one.

@jpt So there seems some truth in it that Omnisphere seems to run “lighter” then Keyscape…

I like them too.

I also own it and don’t like it. I prefer Pianoteq, but also don’t like it that much. I am a bit complicated for pianos😝

I have PianoTeq since the first version, I like, and also don’t like it. In production work behind my DAW I like it. But for Live performing, I feel it lacks some “power” to make its way thru the mix and to shine. Its almost to pure, where the others are more over the top.

Try Smart EQ 3 from Sonible and switch to stereo mode in pianoteq.
Also the arouser Compressor is very Good in the chain.

Ok I see there is a 30 Day trail, I give it a try.
But I’m still amazed on what a big difference I have now with Keyscape, was kind of annoyed that I bought it especially for GP, and probably was not going to use it. But now things look much better.

Did also a benchmark on my disk ( both the same disks ) but one does 6109 Mb/s read, and the other 3526 Mb/s … According to Motherboard specs they should both run on PCIEx4 standard and perform to same. Checking what might go wrong there.

Too… synthetic?

But well, I am pretty sure @pianopaul is right, going thru the mix is mainly a question of… mixing! If you would have a Steinway D available on stage, I suppose you wouldn’t ask for another piano at each new song, but you would probably mix it differently depending on the song.

My concern is more related to obtain exactly what I want when playing and this is very subjective. To tell the truth, when I ear the Keyscape C7, I like it,’. But I hate to play it.

Haha, I know the feeling

You might consider going to 64 GB memory and in Keyscape/Omnisphere turning the pre-load up.

If you’re streaming samples from disk, even an NVME at full speed, you’ll always have the risk that Windows decides to do something that’s going to delay drive access for a few milliseconds.

I give it a try too.

I will try to use it in the Global Rackspace with a “universal” setting, but perhaps it is the wrong way and I have to try an individual setting in every single rackspace.

At the moment I have no idea, what’s the best method.
