Just started a trial of GP 4, coming from Cantabile and Camelot Pro on Windows and I have a couple of initial questions about two operational aspects.
In Cantabile there is a “live mode” which creates a view (lockable) with just tabs for all the songs in the setlist (akin to the Setlist tool on the Korg Kronos) I have attached an image anyway…is there a way to achieve this in GP4?
The mixer bar along the bottom, is there any way to enlarge this?
Reason for both of these questions is I will be using (or plan to use) GP4 on stage using a touch screen monitor, and I will need a larger mixer bar (? if that’s what it is called) and the tabs so it is easier to tap when on stage.
Well, endless maybe, a LOT more complicated? Yes for sure…Setlist view was not what I was asking after, did you look at the pic? That’s the view I want to achieve.
Along the bottom of the screen is a strip that at the far right shows two sliders which I assume are for the main out levels…again an assumption, I figured as you populated the songs, additional sliders would appear for each part?
Haven’t got that far as I have no plugins installed as yet…there’s a few operational things that are vital for my workflow on stage, that if are not obtainable (without arcane setups and various “doo-dads” ) then I will need to re-assess.
I can run Cantabile in this mode on stage with no issues…press a tab and it loads the song.
There may be a midi (over BT) solution I guess where I can send a song select message into GP? Need to check if that is possible without involving OSC
Not at all.
With endless possibilities I mean you can build your own Midi Controller using for example an iPad and TouchOSC or Lemur or Open Stage Control etc.
I guess there is the Next Song/Previous song tabs - not quite as dynamic, but it could work If I need dynamic selection I can always (as long as it is possible) use a MIDI command from the iPad app I use on stage to select a song.
haha, and that’s what I meant by arcane (as in detailed and complicated) I do not want to build a midi controller, I have hardware ones I could use. I am trying to avoid all of that and do it all “in app” so to speak.
Yes indeed…It was suggested to me (elsewhere) that Gp was the closest to Cantabile in the MAC world…I’d say it’s close in that it is the same style of app, certainly (at this early stage) not the same in several aspects.
Anyhoo I have ten days left on the trial, so I will need to move on. Thanks again for your replies.
Yes that’s the Setlist mode, here you see song parts which can in fact be anything, i.e. it could be a selection of any rackspace/variation of your choice.
But, please read the manual, GP goes by far beyond what you think it can do. So, starting with basics is a good idea and please don’t try to reproduce what you now from a third party plugin host, this could narrow the horizon of possibilities. Have fun discovering GP
@pax-eterna I came to Gig Performer fairly recently after dabbling with other hosts (Cantabile, Camelot and previously, Brainspawn Forte) and found things a little counter intuitive to begin with. I found a handful of things I challenged only to come to the realisation the GP way is better. After getting my head around the concept of how Gig Performer is structured, I find that is is much more flexible and just as straight-forward to use as other packages, but with much more possibility to tweak fine detail.
The program is developed by working musicians and I think you can really see that it is by the way it reliably tackles the realities of using VST plugins in a live setting. So stick with it, I think you will find it rewarding the more you learn.
Assuming they are parts, is each one mapped to a different rackspace?
and assuming all that, is there a way to create an initial set of entries that are auto-generated from the current set of rackspaces? (even it if needs to be exported, edited and then imported)
