I recently bought two, 2 metre TB 4 cables that work when used individually. However, when I join them using the female to female joiner pictured below, nothing works. Not sure what to look for now. Any suggestions for a joiner that might work please?
On Amazon I read some reviews suggesting to turn the thing to a different orientation. Also a some people never got it working for data, only power. So mixed reviews.
According to this, the maximum length for a tb4 cable is 2 meters.
The only way to extend the length is by using a hub according to some people. Apple sells a tb4 cable of 3 meters ($ 180,00!).
It seems that there are optical tb4 cables somewhere around $ 400,00, but a quick Googling did not result in something useful
Thats actually all I want. I never thought of reversing the device. Will give it a try.
Amazing! It works. I just flipped one cable, and bingo! - away she went.
Nice. I suggest you take a picture or whatever works for you to remember which cable is connected in which direction. There are quite some possibilities ![]()
Along these lines, I’d love to get a good Thunderbolt/USB-C hub, but when I do searches, almost all of the products are multi-adapters. A typical configuration includes a USB-C input from the power adapter, a USB-C connector from the computer, and a variety of USB-A outputs (without strong power), HDMI, Ethernet, memory card, socket… but no additional USB-C connections.
A true USB-C to multiple USB-C hub would also join the cables, and would allow support of additional, low-bandwidth items, like keyboards and control panels. The other nice thing would be that I’d be able to go with USB-C connectors for the computer end of every cable, so I’d be able to plug it directly into the Mac or into the hub and never worry if it has enough power. It would be awesome to have one USB-C cable (and maybe a second one from a power supply) go to my keyboard stand with one USB-C hub to connect every peripheral. I’ll spare the details of whats on my stand…
Anybody know of such a true, powered USB-C/Thunderbolt hub solution?

How about this one.
Nice. I hadn’t looked at Corsair products. This Thunderbolt model is pricey, but it looks like they have a USB-C model that might work. It needs to be powered externally, rather than via USB-C. I’ll need to study it further to make sure that it would do the job.
As always, when shopping for a hub, it’s important to check power and bandwidth. Some have just power and some have just bits and minimal power. Bandwidth can differ. Unfortunately, the specs aren’t always clear.
Anyway, it would be nice to connect my whole setup with just one or two cables.
BTW, here is another product that can be helpful for connecting gear. It lets you connect a powered USB-C cable into this adapter with a DC power plug. It’s a way of reducing the need for power bricks for small gear, and makes it possible to run older gear from a USB power bank.
I don’t mean to hijack the original post, but connecting gear often requires many pieces to build a clean setup.
