Youtube showed me a demo of JHS’s Colour Box pedal, which is apparently more or less a couple 1073 preamps run together. I’m not really familiar with studio equipment and don’t think I have any plugin like it. I really like some of the things it can do, from clean DI sounds to warm to distortion to fuzz. Is there plugin that would give me the equivalent of this?
Here’s the JHS video, fwiw. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mkNLGcLvEE
There are loads of 1073 plugins around - good place to start (as it’s free - and sounds good!) is this one:
BritBundle | Patreon
It’s on a patreon page, but the plugins are available without being a patron. In that bundle there is just the preamp from the 1073 - which is likely what you want? - but also a ‘full’ recreation of the EQ (which includes the pream). So to re-create the Colour Box it might be a case of stacking the preamp into the EQ and using the preamps on both to get the level of drive. Engaging the ‘MIC’ button on the preamp massively boosts the gain and for guitar that is what you’d want to use to get the fuzzy tones of the Colour Box. I haven’t used it for a while, but tried to do the same thing some years back and I am pretty sure I used these plugins.
