On my Korg Kronos, I could use some master effects, and per instrument (max 16) send a part of the sound, e.g. to a reverb.
Today I’m checking how to do this with GigPerformer, and came up with some pretty ‘complicated’ solution, not sure if there is an easier or better way.
Below is one rackspace I used as example
As you can see I use a layered way of placing the boxes in the rackspace.
- The orange ones are the MIDI in boxes. I have two keyboards, and splits are also defined here, including the usage of sustain pedals.
- The green ones the plugins themselves
- Then two blue boxes for some plugin specific effects
- Then a layer of audio mixer, which can be seen as to mix for each ‘stacked’ sound the combined instruments together, so that later I don’t have to move two knobs to change the volume of a stacked sound (this is much better than on my Kronos).
- Then a row of volumes (audio mixers) which can be seen as my main mixer to control the balances of each sound
- Then a row of gains, which are coupled to two expression pedals, one for the 61 key keyboard, and one for the 88 key keyboard (and also for one specific sound to change the cutoff for a nicer volume control). From here the audio signals go to both the main mixer (for the dry signal) and to the reverbs, I had to use 2 (one for each keyboard), as otherwise the 61/88 mixer doesn’t work
- An 61/88 mixer where I can easily change the upper/lower keyboard volume
- In my global rackspace previously I used the expression pedals to control volume, but this is too late, as I also want to start using the plugin bypass principle.
