Is Mac mini prone to overheating?

Hi, I’m considering a new rig. I am concerned about a mac mini running GP and it possibly overheating. I’ll only be running the machine a couple of hours a night and using some Arturia plugins, small Kontakt samples and Ivory…Please tell me your thoughts…Thanks

I use a 2014 Mac mini. The only time that I’ve had an overheating problem was an outdoor summer afternoon west Texas gig. I wasn’t thinking and left it running for a couple of hours before the first set (in the sun). I think any computer would have had similar problems…After that incident I did purchase an external base with a cooling fan.

I have a 2023 Mac Mini M2Pro 32GB RAM 2TB drive. It has never overheated, even on outdoor summer gigs.

I have an ancient Mac Mini M1 (maybe 1st Gen, I don’t remember )

I rarely even close GP there, and quite often I run something like rendering video while playing guitar in parallel, never had it overheating (or if it did happen I didn’t notice )

Actually I don’t even think you can overheat it with GP since this app apparently uses a single core, so it isn’t even capable of straining the computer enough. It starts having audio crackling at about 45-50% CPU mark, whatever that number means on Macs, so you just physically can’t use enough resources to cause heat problems.

That said, to hit that 45% mark you need a lot running, my gig files are fairly complex and have tons of plugins with oversampling and such.
