A question-just got GP and starting working this up. Is there a way to have the “sequence” start when I trigger the keys? It seems as if the lfo is chugging along at all times and if I’m slightly off so is the attack and timing? I’m thinking this might be challenging in a live situation. Maybe I’ve missed a setting on the ARP?
There is no sequence. You have to play the song.
Of course, that’s why I put sequence in parenthesis. When I play a note sometimes it’s got a strong attack, sometimes it seems like it’s in the middle of the lfo cycle.
Right but that is how that particular song was created. If you listen to the original, it’s behaving exactly the same way
I do understand that. My main gig board is a Kronos. When I program similar it gives me an option in the settings where the LFO’s wave will either start with the key trigger every time or continue and wherever in the cycle you hit the key, there you are. I didn’t know if there was a similar option that I’m missing. It’s simple to play solo but unless we’re using a click, time is likely to drift so having the retrigger option is helpful-
cheers
You don’t want the LFO wave to restart every time you play a note - at least not if you’re trying to emulate that particular song - but if you’re playing the solo part at the same speed as the LFO is gating the VCA (or in the case of my example by retriggering the ADSR which then gates the VCA) you should not get the drop in volume since each note you play will be happening at the retrigger time.
Feel free to post your gig file here, it will probably please a lot of users.
Reaktor blocks are nice. If you are willing, please post your ensemble
One gig file, attached. Hope it works for whomever tries to use it. I think the gate is configured correctly. My band wasn’t interested in pursuing this song. So, I didn’t spend a lot of time getting the sweep settings perfected.

Thanks for sharing!
I have created a new version of my original example of how to recreate the approach used to play Won’t Get Fooled Again by The Who.
This version uses the hammond organ and ARP 2600 included in the Arturia Modeling Collection.
The main difference is that the VCA is no longer being triggered by a square wave generated by VCO1.
Instead, it is being modulated by a square wave generated by a separate LFO whose tempo can be synced to Gig Performer’s playhead. This allows you to (a) set the desired tempo by adjusting Gig Performer’s BPM and (b) turn on the metronome to produce a click that plays at the same speed - suitable for drummers.
I’ll answer questions as time permits but you should consider this to officially be completely unsupported
Soundwise, it is not identical in tone or such things as filter cutoff values etc., because I don’t have the original handy and frankly I’m not that interested in trying to reproduce the exact tones.
Feel free to tweak it and don’t tell me that this isn’t exactly how Pete did it because I don’t care
This Gig File was created with Gig Performer 5.1.1 - it should work in earlier versions of GP5 as well as GP4 but I didn’t (and won’t) test those earlier versions.

Very nice. With a few tweaks its also close to the intro sound of Blinded By The Light from Manfred Mann.
Really? I used to play that song, on a real Minimoog actually – I did a slow portamento upwards with the oscillators being pitch modulated really fast.
How did you get to that effect from this gigfile.
I swapped out the Arturia organ for the IK Multimedia B-3X and the thought of Blinded By The Light popped into my head. It’s a slightly slower tempo(~70bpm) but it wouldn’t take much tweaking to get it very close.
Are you talking about the main riff or the portamento slide at the end of the verse? The main riff is an electric piano, played manually.
The first 30 seconds of the song that is prominently featured, and then fades into the mix after that. Occurs again during each chorus.
Ok. That’s the main riff. Played that song often. I see why you were reminded of it but it isn’t actually gated, it is played manually….I always think of Supertramp as well….many of their songs used the same technique, Dreamer being the classic.
It’s the descending Bb-Am-Gm7-F
That’s very interesting – different instrument altogether and no gate. Many different paths lead to the same place!
Yeah, I can hear that in my head now.
