How to desactivate "NIHostIntegrationAgent" during install

Hi,

I want to install the demo and check how GigPerformer behaves with Komplete Kontrol. However, it wants me to close NIHostIntegrationAgent" , or it will update or replace it ??

I guess it is a service for NI Maschine or KompletKontrol, or else.

So, as I am not sure I want it to be changed by someone else than NI, I wanted to know how to de-activate it safely.

I looks like I can’t submit a pic here, so I give you the link to the same topic on NI forums, which has a pic:
https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/gigperformer-wants-to-close-or-replace-nihostintegrationagent-safe.314210/

Thanks

Hello,

interesting that the Windows installer wants to stop that process while installing.
There is nothing in Gig Performer that will really change any third party libraries, but it does make sure that certain system components are up to date.
It is possible that NIHostIntegrationAgent uses some of the system files that need to be updated and that’s the reason for the message.

We will certainly not change your NI components or any other third party components

To close that service - you most likely need to go into your “Services”. You can find it under Administrative Tools or simply open the control panel and type in “Services”. A list of services will come up. Find the NI… service and then right click and stop it. Try to install. After the installation - you can start the service or reboot your computer which will start it automatically.

There is a similar service on OS X called NIHardwareAgent and my Maschine needs it, but it does not come up as something that needs to be shut down. OS X installs things a bit differently.

Hope this helps

I just looked at the query you posted on the NI forum (and thanks for mentioning Gig Performer there by the way!)

Looking at the message, what’s happening is that both NIHostIntegrationAgent and Gig Performer are using some Windows shared support libraries (DLLs) and the version of one of them (I can’t tell which one from that dialog) that is included in our installer is newer than the one currently installed on your system.

However, it is not possible to replace/update a DLL in Windows if it is currently in use. That is why the installer is asking you to shut down NIHostIntegrationAgent. As soon as the installation has completed, you should be able to start NIHostIntegrationAgent again from the same Services menu and it should just work as before, but using a newer support library.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks a lot !

I managed to de-activate the service and to restart it after the install, which went fine this time.

I am currently scanning my vst x64 plugin folder

Can I quote the reply of Nebojsa Djogo on the NI forum with a link to this forum so it could help other users ?
Thanks!

Glad it worked!

Absolutely - go ahead and quote away

Thanks.

Of course you can quote the reply. Glad to know everything is ok.

Enjoy Gig Performer.

Thanks a lot,

I played with “GP” a littlebit and it is already incredible! a very (extremely) promissing software.
Komplete Kontrol seems to work fine!

Now let me know where I can post “bugs” or suggestions for improvements, because for the moment:

  • It crashes with my Asio driver (soniccore’s xite 1 asio), so i must use the wave driver now, but may be in real situation i can use something else eventhough it would be much less good.
  • The “play” doesn’t work with Mashine (it plays the first step but then stops): i could use sample loops for the drums anyway but i guess maschine is nice to have too.
  • a midi panic button could be nice, i noticed a sustained long note when doing something (not sure what: adding a new rack while playing a synth or something that i probably won’t do “live” once all the songs are set.

That’s why i must postpone the purchase right now, but GigPerformer is simply incredible and keeps its promisses concerning CPU usage and changing setups. Going from a rack to another is already very powerful + the ability to layer/split stuff … makes all those vstis closer to real piece of hardware ! “amazing” is the word and it is deserved !
I will certainly buy it when I am more ready to go live myself
Keep up the great work !

As we mention on the Downloads page, we recommend that Windows users try the ASIO4ALL drivers (http://www.asio4all.com/)

There is a MIDI Panic button - it’s the large exclamation button on the top right of the main window (see attached image)

By the way, I don’t think anyone has run into a situation where a MIDI note got stuck before, we have that button there just because!

If you are able to reproduce that problem with a stuck note, we’d appreciate the steps necessary to reproduce.

Thanks for all those tips !!
It’s been like, 10 minutes on this software and I am amazed. I already advertised for it on many forums and facebook pages
Will try asio for all tomorrow (it is late here)…

Please let us know if the ASIO4ALL solves your problem. If not, perhaps you could send us the actual crash report that you get.

HI !

I installed Asio4all and it crashes GP too. It worked once without crashing, but it detects only outputs from my motherboard soudcard, that I don’"t use (SPDIF, or HDMI audio output from the graphic card…). . I tried connecting another soundcard but it doesn’t change anything (it always crashes).

It also crashes as soon as I select ASIO from the audio settings menu: more exactly, after selecting Asio, Asio4all is selected by default, but after a couple of seconds, it crashes. I had the same behavior without Asio4all.

Here is the crash log

What version of Windows are you running? Someone else had this problem and then they uninstalled ASIO4ALL and everything apparently worked again.

Hi David,

It is windows 7 64 bits ‘pro’ , up-to-date as of last month.
I uninstalled asio4all and the ASIO still crashes GP.
I think that it has more to do with the detection of various ASIO drivers, because after the crash, I can run another asio soft and asio drivers work as usual. Usually, if for example Studio One or other app freezes, the asio driver must be restarted. Here it is nothing like that. I guess that GP did not even access that asio driver, because it crashed before that.

I have other soudcards, but I cannot try anything because I don’t have access to the menu to choose wich ASIO to run: it crashes before that, more exactly "a couple of second after I select “ASIO” in the “Audio Device Type” ". So I cannot select any other ASIO than the one displayed by default.

  • When Asio4all is intsalled, it is Asio4all that is selected by default

  • When Asio4all is uninstalled, it is the ASIO Direct X full Duplex driver that is shown by default

  • For the moment I run GP on Xite/Scope WAVE Drivers, and it works fine (except that i have higher latency than usual + no seperate output to route to my soundcard, and mixing multiple source inside a wave driver is like, well, not very musical :-).
I Hope all these details help.

Do you have SP1 installed? Do you have the very latest version of your audio interface drivers installed?

yes, absolutely
it is a state of the art audio PC workstation  .

If it was state of the art, you’d be running Windows 10 ?

Just kidding — we might need to do a remote sharing session with you to figure this one out. Would you be amenable to this?

>>> If it was state of the art, you’d be running Windows 10
You mean win XP ? lol

yes i have the time to do that at certain hours (in the evening pfrench time (GMT+1).

Sorry, we all came down with flu, and have been out of action. We will be in touch ASAP to figure this out.

Could you please try the following…

Visit this URL https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24350
At the very top - there is a file that can be downloaded “AsioScope.zip” . Download that file, unzip it and double click on the extracted .reg file.
Try to run GP afterwards and select the ASIO driver.
