Help on Trouble Shooting - Notes are being auto played on Rackspace change

Hi Folks,

I have a rackspace using CollaB3 and another layered organ, that frequently play and hold notes when I switch to that organ rackspace. MIDI panic does not resolve. Moving out then back into the rackspace does not resolve. Only playing ALL the keys resolves the held notes. Only occurs on organ patch. And happens regardless if I wait a period of time before switching rack spaces or if switching instantly.

Any thoughts on troubleshooting

Thanks

James

Your operating system?
Gig Performer version?
Plugin version (free or pro)?
Fornat of the plugin?
Was it always like this or it started happening recently?

My apologies. Thank you

MacOS Ventura

GP 5.1.6

CollaB3 v2 Pro (I believe I am using the AU unit but will have to check in a few hours)

Only started happening after I moved instances to rack spaces from variations as the variations were not saving my organ settings. And seems to only occur when I change through setlists.

You should for sure try using the vst and also the vst3 versions of the plugin!
We’ve often seen diffrent behavior amongst the diffrent formats!

thanks. Unfortunately there is no change using vst……

…..But that somehow lead me to think my sustain pedal is the culprit. I use my sustain to trigger the rotory effect and of course I use it for sustain in my other patches. I have done a bit of rewiring in GP and gonna try it out. I will post if i have figured it out.

I have had issues like this in the past, with two different causes.

The first was when the midi in block was not getting a note off command. This would happen when changing rackspaces with the sustain pedal held down, or my fingers still on the keys. Only really an issue with piano. I now use one rackspace per song with variations.

The second is if I switch to a variation that has a different transpose set, and again, sustaining or holding down a key. This is all within the same Rackspace.

A thing about hung notes is they tend to be more noticeable/a problem with sounds that do not decay on their own, like an organ. (I might have hung notes all the time with piano sounds, but they are not a big deal because they decay on their own, even without a note off message).

So, this definitely sounds like a pretty typical issue where you are not getting the “note off” message when you change rackspaces. So, as you mentioned, the way you are able to stop it is going back into the rackspace, hit the note and (more importantly) note off (when you release the note).

And you switching to a new rackspace, rather than a new variation? Does changing patch persist help?

I have this type of issue pretty often (although I think sometimes there is a problem with the plugin and sustain pedal, that may be different). I usually don’t want to spend lots of times figuring it out. So, I might avoid using the sustain pedal (where that is the cuplrit) or even holding a chord when I change song parts.

But, I don’t have good answers (even for myself), so maybe others can help.

Well @Dave_bass5 that is super interesting regarding the transpose set as my organ patches do have transpose on them. I think that is the rabbit hole I am going to go down. Thanks
