Hi - I’m preparing a show and I need some help for optimization. I am an ok experienced Gig Performer user who soon needs to replace my computer… But I have at least one Christmas tour to go before that happens. And I hope to get some help.
I’m using Predictive loading “3 rackspaces”, but I experience that even though the song in the setlist is green and ready to go, I have some annoying pops/clicks during the first 5 seconds, as if the samples aren’t fully ready.
I’m on a MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16 gb ram 1 tb harddrive and T7 ssd. 44.100 / 256 buffer. I could make a higher buffer size but the cpu is only maxing out at 30% and as a pianist I try to keep the latency low.
I use heavy sounds like Keyscape (often in thinning mode) or Vienna Steinway (only one or two mic position), NI Studio Strings Pro 2 (they are especially challenging), Omnisphere, Amplesound guitar and bass etc.
For effects I have placed 3 Valhalla units in the global rackspace, and Fabfilter Eq in the indivitual rackspace.
Would it be an advantage for me to eg put the strings and piano in global rackspace, so they are ready at all times? Or is that not the way to go in terms of saving ram. They are used in most of the songs, but not all. It would be a help for me with a tutorial link, how to control these sounds from individual rackspaces, since I haven’t experienced with that before.
Do I miss something? I have closed all other programs and turned off wifi, so the 16 gb of ram should be enough for the selected rackspace and my CPU is not showing any problems in program.
I also have a little issue with a little click beween songs og song parts, that makes it less elegant to use. Can that be fixed?
On the long term - advice for the new MacBook Pro:
Would it be better to go for a used Macbook Pro M1Max 64 gb / 4 tb or Macbook Pro M5 (current standard - non pro - model) 32 gb / 1 tb if the primary use is Gig Performer live and Cubase. It’s the same price.
