I’m an avid user of Fractal Audio gear for guitar and have a very complex setup that I’ve put together over many years for use with two guitar players. I have over 200 presets (rackspaces) and each has 5 scenes (variations). I just started migrating this setup to Gig Performer.
I’ve pretty much mapped out most of what I need to do but there are some gaps I need to solve. For amps/cabs I’m covered with NeuralDSP. I have a Valhalla delay plugin that covers my delay/shimmer/reverb. I have HyperDrive for virtual capo, Xplode for whammy and CryBoy for wah. I don’t yet have solutions for synth, formant, plex, tremolo, rotary, smart harmony, multiband compressor and complex delays but right now those are low priority as they account for less than 10% of my presets.
Have any other guitar players here migrated from Fractal Audio to Gig Performer?
Hey, yeah, similar situation here.
After trying different things I finally bought Helix Native.
I use Valhalla delays and reverbs and S-Gear or Nembrini for amps and drives, but modulation effects and random stuff come from HX Native.
Poly Capo is also amazing, I a/b tested with the HyperTune and it sounded best, at least for cleanish sounds.
Thanks for the reply. I’m curious how you set up your project. I have 200+ presets on the Axe FX3 and they’re setup with a lot of global blocks, especially for amp/cab where I want to centralize any changes so I don’t have to update all the presets whenever I make a tweak. The way I’m approaching it for Gig Performer is I’m creating a “kitchen sink” global rackspace with some plugins and plugin controls mapped and tweakable within the standard rackspaces. This way I can make per-song tweaks but for the overall sound I have it centrally controlled. I’ve also written a GPScript that recognizes the same MIDI sent to my Axe FX3 to switch presets (rackspaces) and scenes (variations). This way I can leverage all the work I’ve done in Logic Pro for the past several years. Once I have this more developed I’ll share some screenshots.
The one thing I can’t find a replacement for so far is the Axe’s ability to detect the pitch of a note and then adjust the overall volume accordingly. Higher the pitch the higher the boost. This is useful for when I play a lick high up on the neck and get a +2db boost automatically then afterwards switches back to unity when I’m playing chords and lower notes.
