If you take a look at the pic, you will notice that I am side-chaining Zebra into “Q1 Stereo” which has been bypassed for the moment. However, the audio from “Q1 Stereo” is still coming through to the mixer?
I just read the description of “bypassing” in the documentation … and yes, it confirms my understanding of what should be happening, but it is not. It’s a little tricky to explain, but let me give it a try:
1) I am routing the audio-out of Zerbra to Ovox and then to my mixer and then to the Fireface 800.
2) If I bypass the Ovox then I should just hear only the audio signal produced by Zebra. ... but that is not the case.....
Ovox is grabbing the Zebra signal and then partially applying an FX to it. It is not applying the full Ovox effect (“Bass Derived”), but it is distorting the Zerbra signal in a weird way.
4) I have tried eliminating Ovox from the chain entirely by removing it and having Zebra go directly into the mixer etc. ... In this case, the sound coming through from Zebra is a pure Zebra sound with no effects or distortion at all.
Not sure what the goal was, but you are also summing the stereo output from the Zebra plugin into a bypassed plugin and then routing that, now mono, signal into a stern mixer input.
Not sure what the expected result is, but the sound from your Zebra will be changed because of this “OVox” plugin or not.
OK then, the problem might be because I am going from stereo to mono as you say. Let me try the same setup but with a stereo FX. If it still does something weird, I will post it, otherwise we can drop this discussion.
OK, substituting for a stereo FX plugin (“Waves Doppler Stereo”) does what it should. The problem was weird because I thought it would ignore the Ovox FX and just pass the pure signal through, but evidently the summing from stereo to mono was was still taking effect and confusing me.
so bottom line: bypassing an audio FX simply passes the signal through without process as I originally expected … so, yes, it doesn’t block the signal but instead, it doesn’t process it.
