GP Relayer Help

I’ve been using GP and playing for many years, but have almost no experience recording, so please cut me some slack.

I just got GP5 and cannot for the life of me get it to record in Logic or Luna. Here’s the setup:

  • GP relayer plugin set to Send on channel 1
  • GP relayer in the DAW as a plugin set to Receive also on channel 1
  • All of the green lights for Sender, Local Host, and GP Application are lit
  • I can hear myself play through the DAW and see the signal coming in on the meters. Audio is there.
  • When I record it doesn’t record anything. No signal, nothing.

I’m sure I’m just doing something wrong. I’m able to record in both DAWS using plugins so I know I’m doing the recording part correctly. For some reason I just can’t get it to record Relayer audio.

MOD NOTE: Here is a list of GP Relayer Tutorials

Same here. I’m using Cubase and having the same issues.

Same thing for me, Logic record only the selected track input .If i choose no input recording isn’t possible …
I try several settings on the window recording , no result …

And I’m having almost the same issue with a couple other things going on… using Reaper 6.83 and as soon as I put Relayer in a track as the FX (VST), there’s no sound coming through. THEN, after I quit and close out Reaper, and try to play my VST in GP there’s no sound anymore either, until I close GP and restart it, then my VST will play fine with the Relayer still inserted. I’ve watched Cameron Winters’ vid a couple times and don’t understand why this isn’t working

I’m sending a message directly to Deskew, here the answer :

This is not a GP bug. May we please encourage you to ask this particular question on our community forums. (You may have to register if you are not already a member)

We know it’s a little more effort at the beginning but the community forums put your question in front of a large number of users as well as the developers.

The entire community benefits when questions like these and subsequent answers are available to everyone.

Thank you.

For Reaper, insert GP Relayer as an effect on a track.
Set that track to record Output (it will be set to record Input by default, so you have to change it)
Arm the track to record, and you should be good to go.

Actually you probably can’t. What you’re doing is recording the raw input and then the plugins are being applied to it in real time when you play. If you think about it, it has to be that way. If you were recording the results of the plugins, then you wouldn’t be able to tweak the plugins and hear the difference.

So the trick is to actually send the input into a bus and then record the bus on another track.

Take a look at the example below —

  1. is the audio input ------ doesn’t matter what input you used but it should be a stereo audio track

  2. insert GP Relayer as the first (and only) Audio FX

  3. Set the Output to Bus 1 (say)

  4. On a second audio channel, set the input to be that same Bus

  5. Now, when you record, the audio coming in from GP Relayer will be recorded into the second audio channel

Yeah - it’s a major holiday weekend in the United States — sometimes it’s necessary to wait a little while for somebody to answer!

i found this way at the same time …I live in France so i understand this fact…
I’m new with the GP community and it’s not easy for me to travel here and there …

Thanks dhj

No worries - did the explanation above help?

Yes of course

Makes sense. Thanks for the help. I figured it was something simple.

Inserting GP Relayer as an “Input FX” Is another option in Reaper. This has the benefit of not needing to bypass GP Relayer when you want to playback the recorded track (as Relayer blocks audio throughput when set to ‘Receive’).

I just purchased the GP5 upgrade and was hoping it would with the use case described below but thus far.
I followed the directions listed by dhj on Logic Pro 11 but when I attempt to record a new track as David described on a logic project with 6 previous tracks generated from a multitrack recording of a Farplay session, I created the 2 tracks as described but when I click on record the output has popping noise with clicks followed by a message warning of a sample rate mismatch.
The other tracks play back at 48,000 w/o issue and GP is also set to 48,000.
My Mac is a 2019 MacBook Pro and neither of the apps need to run Rosetta.

I normally run GP on the audio interface of my Roland RD-88 and connect to weekly sessions on FarPlay using my AntelopeAudio ZenTour and multitrack record all players tracks.

Both audio interfaces are always set to 48,000 kHz with generally a buffer size of 60 thru 192.
I have tried running GP Relayer tests with Logic and GP set on the same audio interface and with separate ones without support access thus far.
I know I will love this feature once I can get it to work.

I checked and received a reply back from FarPlay support and their multitrack recording feature does create 48,000 khz .wav files on the recording computer regardless of the sample rate for the other connecting players sample rate.

I downloaded the GP Relayer test GP and Logic project file and I’m not sure if this is pertinent but the logic project changed my Audio interface from 48,000 to 41,000 khz when it opened in Logic.
I did try changing GP 5 to 41,000 so both apps were using the same sample rate and buffer size but I was still unable to get audio passing into Logic.
