Global Fine tune possible?

HI. This has been a pet peeve of mine for so long…
I’ve come to the conclusion that it was never a GP’s problem. it is VST Plug-in problem. Specifically, a VST Plug-in map-able parameter problem.
Kontakt provides host automation that can be mapped to the “tuning” parameter in the master view section. It actually works quite nicely. I simply map a widget to the parameter and I’m good. Yes, different plug-ins will have different scaling so I don’t necessarily link the widgets (although I could with enough work, I suppose). But this works well in my scenario where I need a fine tune adjustment for those time - when I NEED it! VSL, SF Labs and Engine 2 also have this capability, as I’m sure there are others.
The issue is that many 3rd party Plg-In VST’s that use their own player - like Sine, even UVI DON’T have this. Let me correct, they actually have it but it’s NOT subject to host automation. So in order to adjust fine tuning, the actual Plug-in must be opened and the tuning adjusted. All this requires much more work thn simply turning a mapped knob or widget.
I can’t understand why in the world these companies don’t provide host mapping to such a critical element! It seems so obvious! NOT everyone uses VST’s in a tightly controlled studio or music production scenario!!
Fine Tuning automation and quick adjustment is essential for live performance!
Kontakt, VSL, and a few others get it. The others, sadly, don’t.

So reach out to them and ask them to add support for this

I have!!
Some say it’s not possible (Sine) - at least in their current version.
Others (UVI) said it requires significant CPU overhead (?) but said they would consider it for a future release.
Again, if Kontakt and others have done it successfully, it shouldn’t be that difficult right?

I don’t understand – if they already support the feature, then just exposing control of it via host automation shouldn’t do anything.

I wonder though if they’re thinking of pitch shifting rather than just tuning?

Could be, but they know we’re talking MIDI and VST Parameters - not pitch shifting, which is usually in the domain of ‘audio’.
But yes, I don’t get it either…
