GigPerformer: future Updates

General discussion about Gig Performer

Hello,

I am thinking about buying a GP license. What kept me away from doing it is my apprehension that GP will not offer any more updates regularly. If I am right, the last version was released months ago…

there will be updates, I am sure.
But more important than updates is a good support.
believe me the support is excellent.
and a good product does not need monthly updates.

That said, I would strongly encourage you to make your decision based on what Gig Performer can do for you now, rather than what it might/will do for you in the future.

A lot of products offer updates, but in my experience a lot of these updates are ‘just’ patches to correct bugs or security issues.

GP has a somewhat different approach:

  • Security patches are almost unnecessary, because the computer-devices used for GP are seldom connected to the internet, especially during performances. Furthermore a lot of people use GP completely air gapped. I can understand you think that’s wrong as I’m into computer-security professionally, but everything considered, the area GP is active in, is an exception to the rule
  • Updates are a pita (GP, OS or plugins), because they can break the setup. So you would have to test the complete setup extensively to make sure everything still works. You don’t want to have things breaking, while you’re doing a performance
  • The updates/upgrades are very extensively tested before the are released. This takes serious time, so many updates are probably not feasible

My two cents. Feel free to disagree, but I’m really enthusiastic about GP. Made and makes my life a lot easier :slightly_smiling_face:

Exactly! Being one of the Beta Testers (and we are quite a lot), i can say that when an update is finally released, it will be a stable product and you can be sure that every new feature has been thoroughly tested by powerusers. :nerd_face: :muscle:
So, if you tested the trial version and you already think, it might be the right application for you, then why wait…? :slight_smile:

If you need reassurance, rather than informed, then you’ve probably already analyzed that GP is the right software for you. Don’t hesitate to buy it, be part of the community, and be a happy musician as we all are here. Each new version of GP takes its time to become a robust product you can rely on for playing life.

(By this, I was thinking about the practice of not patching your os, plugins, etc.)
