For the next live gig we are using Gig Perforner as the Master to control every backing track, Lightshow, laser, voice processing, bass sounds.
From my gig performer instance OSC messages are sent to another machine running ableton live.
Another OSC message is sent to another machine running different instances of GP for bass sound and voice processing.
Automation messages are sent to this instances from ableton live.
This way we are totally independent of processing effects for the vocals done by FoH mixer.
I have to say that I am working with Ableton Live since V 7
And since that time I am working on doing everything controlling from 1 SPOC (Single Point of Control).
And with Gig Performer and OSC and MIDI all you can think of is possible.
Hi. I have also been using Ableton for years. I Only recently found out about Gig Performer and I have a question about recording with zero latency into Ableton Live:
Can I use Gig Performer to perform and monitor a VST instrument with no latency while sending the performance in real time via the Gig Performer MIDI out block to Ableton via virtual MIDI?
Within Ableton I would have the same instrument muted on the MIDI channel I am recording to so that when I have finished recording in Ableton I would unmute and playback the recorded performance from the same instrument but this time loaded in Ableton rather than Gig Performer.
This is essentially a software work around for direct monitoring VST instruments when recording to Ableton. Latency has always been a major issue for me. I need to feel the instrument directly rather than compensating for even the slightest delay.
Also, might this be achievable via OSC to Ableton rather than using the MIDI out block / virtual MIDI?
Yes, if I was to monitor the the instrument within Ableton there would be a latency that I can not get rid of. So I thought that using gig performer to monitor and perform through will solve the latency issue and at the same time I would be sending the MIDI information via the MID out block/Virtual MIDI to Ableton - this would solve the latency issues when tracking.
Ok, with a Multi Client MIDI Driver this is possible.
But why send Midi from Gig Performer?
With a Multi Client Driver you can use the same MIDI In in Ableton Live as in Gig Performer?
Or do you make Splits in Gig Performer and send on different Channels to Ableton Live?
But you could record your MIDI data direct in Gig Performer and import them in Ableton Live.
Yeah, I guess so. I’ll have to experiment with this. I’ve had differing results recording to MIDI in other applications in the past and then importing. I thought this might be a quicker way to do things. The bottom line is finally being able to monitor VSTs with no latency. Thank the lord
The OSC implementation via Max for live also looks very interesting.
