Gig Performer 5 and Focusrite 2i4 2nd Compatibility Issues

Please check what happens when you change the sample rate from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz in the Gig Performer Audio Options window.

Hi Vindes,

Thank you for your feedback.
But if i replace the macbook pro M2 with the macbook pro intel and i dont change or touch the other equipment (Rokit, Focusrite, guitar, kabels etc ) everything works fine.

Despite testing all your suggested parameters, the audio issue in GIG Performer 5 on my MacBook Pro M2 persists.
Since other systems (Intel MacBook Pro and Windows) do not exhibit the same problem, I suspect an incompatibility with the M2 chip.
I wonder if anyone else with a MacBook Pro M2 has had similar experiences with GP5.

Thank you again for your responses.

When you say “2nd” do you mean 2nd generation? That’s quite an old interface now, and I personally heard a noticeable improvement in quality when I upgraded from a 2i2 2nd gen to a 4i4 3rd gen.

Considering the cost of the MacBook, why not treat yourself to an interface upgrade as well?

Sounds like a driver issue with Focusrite

Hi Dh

I dont think it’s a driver issue with focusrite. Because all other software (logic pro & mainstage) works fine with the focusrite 2i4 2nd Gen on my Macbook pro M2

Hi Rank13,

I agree with you that the new Focusrite 4th generation has a noticeable improvement. But with the 2nd generation all software (Logic pro , Mainstage etc) works fine.

Maybe - but as mentioned in reddit - others have reported exactly the same issue.

Understood, but the reason I went through the individual steps was to narrow down where the problem might be. e.g., if you’re looking at the VU meters in the GigPerformer mixer and they show a very weak guitar signal then we know the problem is low signal level going into GP.

If the signal looks strong at the input to GP then we know the problem comes after that in the chain.

Not that I’ve seen anyone report, and that seems like something that would be reported very quickly.

Based on the information so far it sounds like a driver problem. It could probably be narrowed down if you want to test things one step at a time, and it’s possible there might be a way to work around it. I have an old Motu interface (Traveler) where I have to do silly things like change the sample rate, then change it back to get it to work.

This is the process of troubleshooting, if you want to bother troubleshooting.

From the link above that dhj posted, others have had this problem with Gen 2 Focusrite interfaces and M2 Macs. A few people said the problem was in the security settings.

So if you have OS 14 Sonoma it should look like this:

System settings > Privacy and Security > Screen System and Audio Recording > “then under the ““Screen System and Audio Recording only”” you should see focusrite control, or you can click the + button in the dropdown box to add it” > click “switch” icon to allow its use.

I’m not an Apple person, so I can’t comment on the accuracy of that cascade of menu options.

I use a 4i4. Cant remember the Gen though it is either 2nd or 3rd for sure though. It seems to work fine on a Macbook pro for live use. I use a 128 buffer size.

You might want to try using it on a USB Hub. Although I don’t have any issues using the Scarlett on the Macbook ports I do have issues with my Novation Launchpad (occasional issues where device stop working until I unplug and replug cables) and issues with the Komplete Kontroll S88 board (particular to upgrading firmware). These issues seem to go away when using a USB Hub (externally powered).
