Gig File no longer loads, GP hangs

Similar to other topics which have been posted, none of the suggested solutions have helped… so here goes :upside_down_face:
echo.Location.QUONSET_HUT.gig (1.0 MB)

Hi – a gig file that was previously working now just hangs on load and never finishes, requiring me to force quit GP. The original gig file was created on the same version of GP and same computer, interface etc… It seems to locate and load a bunch of the plugins and then hangs without indicating what it’s stuck on. I tried the safe mode startup option (and unchecked “scan for new plugins” which enable GP to start up fully but the gig itself is empty. Just for fun, I tried editing the gig file, replacing every occurrence of isEnabled=“1” with isEnabled=“0” but this doesn’t change anything. I’ve attached the gig file in this edited state for your consideration. Any further suggestions for troubleshooting? I’m happy to try whatever on my end. Thanks! – SB

  1. What changed on your system at the point when this gig stopped loading? Did you perform any updates? Upgrades to OS? Plugin updates? New plugins?
  2. Do other gigfiles work?

@dhj thanks – yep, other gig files work. I’m not aware of any system changes between the last time it worked and when it stopped working. It’s possible that one or more plugins updated themselves, true. I was trying to bypass all of them with the search & replace so I could try to isolate a naughty plugin but this didn’t seem to have the desired effect.

Ah, forgot to mention – GP support person was able to load the gig file successfully on their machine, and it’s safe to assume they don’t have all the referenced plugins installed. So really I’d love to just bypass all to start with.

Did you try this?

Load fine for me on Windows, but I don’t have any of your plugins or any of the files the file players are trying to load.

Maybe change the names of the audio files it’s looking for (temporarily) and see if that has any impact on behavior?

Interesting idea, thanks – will try it and report back.

OK, so I renamed the directory with all of the backing track and tried to load the gig file. This time it popped up a window listing the files not found but startup still hangs. One detail I’ve noticed – the initial plug in scan seems to pass, then the startup hangs on loading the rackspace itself (named “Master Rackster”). I wonder if there’s anything in the relevant section in the gig file I can modify or remove for testing?

OK, I found the little bastard. Suspected one particular plugin (as it had been acting weird in Logic Pro) and commented it out in the gig file.

  1. What was it?
  • and presumably inserting that plugin is what changed the behavior?
  1. Consider using VSTs instead of AUs - I find them to be more reliable

@dhj It was the SpaceCraft granular synth: https://www.deltavaudio.com – it occurred to me that while it runs great on iPad, the macOS version had been acting strangely in Logic Pro X. As soon as I commented it out in the .gig file, everything is fine… except I need to find another Granular synth that’s as fun to play live  – actually, since this was the .au version, I’ll take your suggestion and try the .vst before I start shopping around. Thanks!

Please report back on the vst - SpaceCraft is indeed fun but it is getting a little long in tooth (that means “old” for the non-native-English speakers…). I haven’t tried it in GP.

Welp, there doesn’t seem to be a VST on macOS…

I really love SpaceCraft but it may be time to start letting it go as it hasn’t been updated in years and macOS updates every 15 minutes

eh. thanks.

Looks like there is a vst3 for mac:

@Frank1119 Interesting, thanks – there seem to be a couple / few ways to grab the plugin. My version came directly from the App Store; my issues might be related to that (i.e. this version is primarily meant for iOS). I will try the Tracktion version to see if it performs better!

Aha, well here’s the problem with the VST version :upside_down_face:

So did you check with the developer for an updated version?

Works fine on Windows 11 and Gig Performer 5.0.20.

Well, I’ve downloaded the latest release (old) from App Store – problematic… and the Tracktion version – testing to follow shortly.
