I’ve just been watching reviews about the new Genome 2 guitar effects plugin… It looks impressive .. and is on ‘special’ for a limited time…ie only a little while to go!
But then I’m wondering how it relates to just using straight Nam 2 inside of Gig Performer?
I’m an ‘occasional’ guitar player..still learning my guiter playing skills…I do enjoy playing around with sounds though..
Do you think a product like Genome 2 still has a place? Or does Gig Performer and a bunch of downloaded Nam profiles and other assorted vsts effectively achieve the same thing?
Given the current “discount” am also debating between the standard and Genome 2 suite version. Do you think Genome 2 adds a lot more to the mix? Thanks for any thoughts!
So NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) is a free, open-source plugin that uses AI to clone the sound of real guitar amps/pedals. It’s been quite the revolution in the guitar world. Instead of simulating circuits like traditional modelers, it “listens” to recordings of the real gear and trains a neural network to match it — output is a small .nam file you load into the plugin. Pair it with an IR or cab..Lots of free captures available too online. Nam 2 has just been released. It arguably rivals high end modellers like the Kemper.. And it’s free.. I’ve been testing it out and while I’m more of a keyboard player.. It sounds pretty good to my ear.. But still learning myself.
So I use Gig performer for playing live…it’s been great for all my keyboard rigs and syncing with Mobile sheets etc…is a great workflow..I then also have bass and a few gutiars in there for some songs…however my guitar playing is not as strong.
I ended up buying the software because of the special. I can see they both have different purposes…Gig Peformer for what it is designed for..playing live..organising a whole setlist etc… plugging in whatever you want from wherever. What I’ve noticed with Genome 2 is it’s great just as a pure ‘guitar’ rig..the layout means you can easily plug in and out various pedals…helpful for learning what they do. I can see they both have a place and while I’m not here to ‘sell’ Genome or Nam for that matter…it is amazing what is now possible with software! Still love Gig Performer though! Thanks!
I’d lean toward the latest NAM player called Gateway and run separate VSTs for effects. The A2 captures sound amazing. I’ve been underwhelmed with Genome but could just be me.
There’s a free version of Genome that’s worth a try if you’re curious.
People have their favorite amp sims and everything else. Nice thing about running them in GigPerformer is not having to choose this one vs. that one. Use whatever you like, mix and match, run multiple ones in parallel, etc.
