I’m loving GP5. I have my setlist and rackspaces set up to send patch change details to my Nord Stage 3 when each song in the setlist is opened. This works great.
I use ForScore to store and display on an ipad all my chord charts. Pre GP, Forscore would send patch change info to my Nord Stage 3 as each song changed.
I now need this same message to be read by GP so my rackspaces/songs change as well.
Here’s how I’ve set up so far…
I have a CME Widi Uhost hard wired into the usb port of my mini pc running win 11.
I have the Nord hardwired from Nord usb port to usb port on mini pc.
As an aside, changing a patch on the Nord changes to the relevant song in GP, and vice versa which is all very nice but not exactly what I want.
I want ForScore to control both the Nord patches and GP rackspaces/songs.
I can’t get the ipad/ForScore to successfully change GP songs.
It sends midi via the widi Uhost, and GP reives a midi signal, but not a PC one!!!
I’ve added Midi monitor ino oneof my rackspaces to see what’s going on…
I receives 3 pitch wheel messages. For example:
The numbers in the left hand column change each time, but the others remain constant.
In GP Global Midi options I have WIDI Uhost ticked under “Accept Program Change messages rom selected Devices only”. (Nord Stage 3, and Local GP Port are unticked.)
I’m transmitting from the ipad on Ch2. GP is “Only accept program change messages on specific channel 2”. I have also ticked “MIDI Song select to PC and use MIDI ch 2”
That is not useful — we need to see the Global MIDI Monitor — that is what shows what messages are being received by Gig Performer itself.
The MIDI Monitor plugins only show what is being passed through to MIDI In blocks and in general PC messages do not come through MIDI In blocks because they are processed by Gig Performer itself
Do you have any idea why ForScore is sending Pitch wheel?
I tried to replicate your setup, but IF ForScore is sending a PC it should appear in the Global MIDI Monitor. To prove this, download a separate MIDI Monitor app and with GP closed, confirm Windows is receiving the PC message. This is a good one: Protokol
Also, now that you’re changing your source of patch changes, you should be careful about any existing midi messages being sent back to WIDI Uhost (like what you have in the Options>Setlists) as you don’t want to create a MIDI loop.
What does the ForScore midi message setup look like?
The App Store also has some free apps that send PC that may be worth a test e.g. “Program Changer”.
My current understanding is the ipad cannot send midi data direct into a Windos pc via a standard usb cable. That’s why I have been trying to send it via a widi u host. As my nord interprets midi messages sent from Forscore on my ipad ok (via a simple usb to usb cable connection) my thinking is the problem lies with the way widi uhost receives midi from the ipad bluetooth midi signal and sends it into the PC. For some reason it is converting a PC midi message into a Pitch Wheel midi message. Weird.
Update: I’ve given up trying to get ForScore with a Widi Uhost to talk to my PC, and installed Mobile Sheets instead. I figure having an ipad mixed with a windows PC in the same set up is just too difficult/unreliable. Perhaps one day software and hardware designers will be able to get both mac and PCs to communicate seamlessly with each other.
As an aside, for my purposes at least, Mobile Sheets is looking like a much better product than ForScore anyway.
