Ok first gig with my hybrid rig is in the books!
Yamaha MODX8 + Arturia Keylab 88 mk ii and Gig Performer. Absolutely flawless show (from a tech POV) with a lot of compliments on my (new) sounds.
A few things to note in the pics. In my rack, you can see a small blue mini PC middle left. This is the home of Gig Performer and a bevy of plugin synths & effects. The mini PC sits next to a MOTU M4 audio interface as the audio source for Gig Performer and VST instruments. Below that are my wireless Shure IEM base and a Radial Key Largo mixer that mixes the Yamaha + virtual synths and serves as a DI + stage monitor loop back.
Atop the Arturia controller on the RH side laptop shelf is an 18” flat panel display. I’m split screening this between Gig Performer and @Mobile Sheets. It was perfection during the show and I didn’t fiddle with any of it except to advance through set lists, song parts and lead sheet pages via foot switch or mini keyboard.
A solid first showing - only better and improved from here!
Of course! It’s stupidly simple. The Arturia has a removable laptop shelf on the back right side.To that, I added a cheap laptop stand I bought on Amazon.
Thanks for the kind words! Yes I am. There are a couple of ways to do it. I’m dropping a MIDI out block to the MODX in the wiring page and assigning the corresponding MSB/LSB and program numbers for the program I want from the MODX as part of the song/rack panel.
How did you determine the MSB/LSB values and program numbers ? Did you use a Midi Monitor, or did you have that documented from Yamaha ? I am trying to do the same with my Kronos, and it is a slow process.
@keyclear99 I’d have to go hunt that down for Kronos. My Kronos is boxed up and up for sale on Reverb at the moment. I’ll see what I can find.
With the MODX, there’s a “properties” menu for each song / performance. Hitting properties shows MSB/LSB and prog. #s. I’ve not had a need to do the same for the Kronos.
I did find this rather cool tool online. Will keep hunting, but looks like this might work.
Show #2 last night with Gig Performer and it was a seamless night.
Gig Performer booted up without a hitch and delivered a great show. Love that I can toggle through sets with a foot switch and start songs that begin with keys in an instant.
Paired with Mobile Sheets, this new rig is a game changer.
Following the show, the sound guy was very kind in complimenting my accurate sounds. Said he doesn’t often hear that from keyboardists he mixes. Highest. Praise. Ever. He was a MainStage guy, but was really interested in Gig Performer. I gave my pitch.
