I would like to be able to control MIDI clock speed on a hardware synth patch from GP. For now, the workaround it to send a pc command to MainStage, which then sends clock speed to the external device. Gig Performer continues to impress and inspire with its flexibility and stability.
While we do have plans to add the functionality for GP to be the master clock in your environment we cannot promise when will that feature be available.
In the mean time - there are many small apps for Mac and Windows - either free or for a small fee that can generate the midi clock.
A quick search pointed to this app on the Mac App store https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/midibus/id648856167?mt=8
You can try it out or find an alternative. Please note that we have not tried this app nor do we endorse it. It simply came up in a simple google search.
The link I posted looks to be for the iPhone/iPad.
There is a free app called Pocket MIDI and can monitor as well as send MIDI clock.
Here is a link to it - it is available from the Mac App store
You would select itās output to be IAC Driver Bus1 say and then select the MIDI Clock module, press play and it should be sending the clock out.
Thanks for the response. I need to set clock speed on a per patch basis. Iāll use MainStage to set MIDI clock for now and wait for Gig Performer to implement the feature. No problem.
HI, I have been trawling through the forum but cannot see that this has ever been answered. I am using the MODX8 and have successfully set up GP3 to change performances via MSB LSB however for Live performances we are using a Yamaha DTX502 to provide additional drums and also the click and therefore this will be the master clock.
I have been able to sync the clock between the DTX and GP3 and it works like āClockworkā however I have been unable to then transmit this clock to the MODX.
As far as I can see, although you can receive the clock into GP3, you cannot then retransmit this to a hardware device. I know that it is possible as I have successfully done this using the trial for Camelot Pro.
This may be a deal breaker for me as I need to sync the arps on the MODX to the DTX and the click. If there is a way within GP3 can you please direct me to the correct settings.
If the DTX is the master, why does GP need to send midi clock to the MODX? Can you not route it to the MODX directly?
The modx can use either
Sorry pressed reply too quickly⦠I have connected the dtx to the pc and it is controlling the clock of gp3 however I cannot find a way to route it to the modx within gp3
There will be others on the forum who could provide much better advice than me on midi routing.
But one thought was whether you can route the DTX first to the MODX (USB to midi din cable) and then set the MODX midi thru so that the incoming clock is routed back out to GP.
Iāll just chime in that you should have only one MIDI clock in your environment. Having more than one will not work well so re-transmitting is really not an option. We do have it on our todo list however to implement and internal GP clock that can be transmitted out - youād still then have to use only one clock in your environment.
I see this is an old 2018 thread. I also need to send MIDI clock to an external hardware device (with Gig Performer setting the tempo for all my plugins.
What is the current status on support for this? If GP canāt send clock, are there current workarounds for Mac users?
If you have any version of Ableton Live, it sends midi clock. So using the āAbleton Linkā feature in GP means that the GP tempo will always update Ableton ā which will then send out the midi clock.
I havenāt tried this app, but the iOS app Audiobus has both Ableton Link and Midi Clock support, and is intended for routing these things to apps/hardware:
When used in conjunction with Link, Audiobusā MIDI sync feature will act as a bridge between the two systems.
EDIT: this free iOS app (Link to Midi) could be another option. It is converting the Ableton Link from GP into midi clock.
Thank you⦠I understand about only having one clock and I have used the modx as the main clock before⦠To be honest this is about finding the best way to have a click running over inears⦠Ideally with the equipment we currently ownā¦
Xair 18
modx8
Gig performer 3
Laptop
And dtx
With the possibility of adding another keyboard like the Roland ds61.
Ideally the drummer would control the start and stop points and would keep strong enough time to allow for the pre programmed arpeggiated parts and effects. (if that makes sense)
The modx does allow for automatic beat detection through the A/D input however that can be somewhat spotty at timesā¦
Iāll keep experimentingā¦
You could have GP send itās metronome to a specific audio channel on your XR18 so that everyone can hear it.
Just wanted to bump this feature request. Would be great to be able to send clock out to my hardware instruments.
I want to bump this feature request too. It would be great to be able to send midi-clock to my hardware instrument (Korg Kronos) directly from GigPerformer. For example Ableton and Reaper as another DAW do not work for me.
Just chiming in to add I also would like this feature. I would use it to send midi clock to a hardware keyboard and my guitarists pedalboard.
Iāve found that Cherry Audio Voltage Modular can send out MIDI clock. Although it was part of the most expensive tier that includes all their āmodulesā.
I have attempted a Juce plugin (borrowing other more talented peopleās code). This an AU plugin on MacOS. The app shown at the top is Ableton Live - set to sync with external midi clock from a virtual midi port. It does take a little while to stabilise.
A VST version for Windows and Mac would probably make the day of a lot of GP usersā¦
100% to bump this feature request. GigPerformer seems to be the only plugin host (or DAW used live) that I am aware of that does not have this feature.
I understand that it is probably better (more accuracy and less jitter) using an external hardware MIDI Sync generator, but for small amateur/semi-pro use this may well be too costly and complex.
