In mainstage you can define a dynamic keyrange, so the splitpoint depends on what notes you are playing and how you are playing the notes.
In GigPerformer the splitpoint is fixed.
I think that could be a good feature for players who are using only 1 keyboard.
I think thats the only thing that I’ll miss from mainstage, when doing left hand bass an right hand piano and ocasionally some bass riff needs a note above the split point or some piano line needs to cross the line
Maybe somebady can script thay function
just tried this dynamic split in MainStage.
Example: 2 regions where the lower range is up to B2 and the upper range is from C3 upwards.
Now you can set dynamic range upper and lower.
So for the lower region is defined a dynamic range of 12 semitone upward and for the lower is set a dynamic range of 12 semitone down.
Now when I play B1, nothing changes.
when I play C1 then the upper range is shifted by 1 to C2 because of the dynamic range of 12 upwards.
When I play B2 it is shifted to B3.
The same way the lower range of the upper is shifted.
So no overlap occurs.
For the split again shifted down one has to play C4 down.
I have to say that this feature is more complex to understand and sometime difficult to play.
I am not really sure if that feature is really helping.
I used that because in MainStage there is no concept of variations and this way I tried to reduce the number of patches.
But you have to carefully think about what to play first and when to release the correct keys.
But you could say, for example, that starting from the split point, it should play an octave of notes with decreasing volume the further away you are from the split point. ?
Then you could use scripting.
But what is volume, maybe velocity?
And what volume should be applied when you play notes way before the split point and notes belonging to the range where the volume should be scaled?
I know Omnisphere supports such splits.
But with Gig Performer the same is not really possible I think.
When I first came to GP, I requested the same, but I think adjusting your playing/thought process around the problem will solve most issues. For me all the dynamic keyboard splits went away when I used more variations. The trick was to adjust the keyboard split points with a widget and set this widget in the variations then simply step through the variations as required in song mode.
Exactly what I do, but I find it takes some of the enjoyment away from playing as I have to try and remember where all the splits are.
A few times ive done a run on a piano, only to end up going in to the brass section of the keyboard
