Direct Wave in FL studio with GP5

Hi, I loaded Direct Wave plugin using FL into GP5 and the sounds play normally except the sustain pedal doesn’t work on any of those sounds. The sustain pedal is transmitting controller information and the cables light up when I depress the sustain pedal and I checked the MIDI in processor Event blocking to make sure Sustain was not disabled. I tried both the AU and VST3 versions with the same issue. I’m using a MacMini M4 with the latest Sequoia OS. Thanks!

trying to understand.
you loaded the plugin in FL or in GP?
Does it work just in FL? Does it work just in GP?
is the problem like you describe only when using both FL and GP?
Direct Wave is a sampler looks like.
Have you created your own samples inside it?
Do other samples work with sustain?
If you did create your own samples in it, can you check whether there is a way to hook up sustain functionality to those custom samples?
It could be that Direct Wave either does not support sustain (cc#64) or it could be what i mentioned above, that sustain parameter must be setup with custom sample programs.
GP does not block sustain by default, unless you specifically filter it out using a midi filter.

from just a bit of research on reddit - it appears that direct wave does not have (in its list of parameters) a dedicated parameter for sustain.
one reddit user was suggesting a workaround - automating the adsr release to achieve a similar effect.
see this.

Yes the sustain pedal works normally when using Direct Wave with FL Studio. It’s when I use FL Studio as a plugin in GP5 to use Direct Wave with GP5 that this issue occurs

That’s interesting. I am lost then honestly.
I thought direct wave was just not supporting sustain. But you say it works individually.
Maybe there is a conflict between FL and GP. maybe plugins should only be used directly inside GP??

There is a solution which I just found. What I like about DirectWave is that it doesn’t consume a lot of CPU and some of my favorite sounds import into DirectWave quite with of course some definite time tweaking them to respond to my liking. Don’t really need FL Studio but if I want to be able to use DirectWave then I’ll have to buy FL studio

What is Direct Wave?

It’s a plug-in that’s included with FL Studio. The full version that you can edit sounds is a separate purchase unless you buy the near top tier version of FL Studio. You can import sounds from different formats such as Kurzweil,EXS24,SF2 etc. I wish they made a version that didn’t require you buying FL Studio. Not knocking FL Studio as I really don’t know it very well at all but I don’t really need another DAW

Oh I see.

Are you familiar with Chicken Systems Translator?

Yes! I’ve owned it for years. A lot of people knock it but it’s paid for itself many times over. Of course some translations work better than others to be sure but they support a lot of formats. Quite honestly I don’t really need another plug-in or DAW but I think DirectWave does a pretty job with importing as long as you’re prepared to do some editing
